Why do I need to be a flat out bitch for my neices and nephews to give me any respect? I want to be able to relax and have some fun every now and then with them, only every time I do they go and do some crazy shit. For example, I bought ALL 4 of them their own PS2 games and Nintendo DS games when we decided to go on a "spree" at Gamestop. When we got home they all took turns fairly on the PS2 and everything was going wonderful (I should have known something was up at this point), at least for about 4 hours. I figured one hour each is more than an ample amount of video gaming time. Hell no. Two were crying as though they were being sent to an orphanage with the only thing to look forward to being some shit ass porridge. The 13 year old girl mumbled under her breath (didn't quite catch it, but I am most certain if I had, she'd have her mouth washed out with soap). The 11 year old boy, who is my biggest troublemaker, held nothing back. He decided to tell me that he doesn't get anything, he is treated like an outcast, he hates his family, etc. NONE of the spoiled brats were amused when I ripped the damn system out of the playroom and put it in my closet. I am waiting to see how behaviors are to see if we keep the games. Either way, you can't be nice to a kid anymore. They have no respect for authority whatsoever.

Humans argue over limited resources. It's the most natural thing in the world. You set up a situation in which they all had to share a resource and naturally they began fighting for more of it.

It's got more to do with the situation you set up than their respect for you. Also remember that when they're doing this, it's not about you, it's about them airing their own personal baggage. If you start airing your own, especially when you're the adult, the entire situation will spin into dysfunction because they are taking their cues on how to behave from you.

Maybe you can look at how you react when they start pushing your buttons. They might behave differently if you don't get sucked into their game.

    Curmudgeon,

I appreciate your point of view. Although I didn't go into the room releasing some tirade on them, I see your point. I want to make it clear that I wasn't saying any of these things to them. I am merely using this forum to "bitch." I thought I was being reasonable and fair, seeing as all I want is for them to work simple solutions out on their own. I didn't go running in there like a bat out of hell...I know that I did state I "ripped" the system from the room. That may have been a little overboard. Either way, it was taken out, and in my own defense, I believe I used good personal judgement.

Daren Kufere's called me a "Bitch" because I told him I had uncovered unsavory details about his business affairs. Now men tend to call women bitches when they do not get what they want from them. Daren Kufere wants me to stop talking...
