Might as well spill it as I am up and so bummed out.  I got a call from work today-----my new good job that I was quite proud of.  The message said to call this number--it is imperative!  I kept calling and calling but got a recording saying I needed an access code.

I went to a neighbor's house that works there also, and found out that she had talked to another person who had "gotten the call."

Finally, I got a repeat call and answered.

I am now "unemployed."   Just like that.  Gone.  Can't use my badge to get in the door to get my personal belongings, even!

Woe is me......me is going to try to collect unemployment and and this time enjoy my time off!  Last time I got all bent out of shape and found a job----this one.  A good one.  Now it's gone.....I can reapply in a year and start all over.  Where will I be in a year?

Not wiring butt plugs, I guess!

Wish me luck.  I will be around either much more, or not as much--don't know yet.  I am not used to getting up and watching "Ellen" and "Price Is Right."

The economy sucks, but what you gonna' do?

Write, exercise, sleep, dream.....spend any extra cash on the lottery.....

This all sounds so way too familiar from just a few months ago that I have a headache.  Keep me occupied, guys.......!

But the unemployed wombie will survive.  Might as well have fun this time around!

Oh wow Wombie!  I'm SO very sorry to hear this!
What a way to let employee's go!!!  I guess that's how they avoid people that want to go "postal!"

I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer, and relax.  Cry through some thunder storms with me and enjoy it.

Oh, Daily---so glad to see you!  I am trying not to be so down, but I am a little lost and confused.  I will know more tomorrow about the unemployment thing, and then I will feel better.  But, I know how I felt before---looking for a job, and it's scary.  Life is kind of "open-ended" again for me.  I will survive. But I sure hate this.  And yes!  They took the cowardly way out! When the the thunder rolls, I will think of you.....

I am so sorry. To be told you are being let go in such a manner is both rude and ridiculous. Hopefully something better will be right around the corner.

oh wow so sorry to hear this wombie!!! dont worry you'll find a new job soon.... i'll pm you
  • wombat said on Jul 13, 2008....
woman:  This is nice, to see a response.  I am thinking of what my hubby said--you just never know from day to day--no matter what job you have or how long you have been there. I haven't been there long at all, but what I heard was that this company never did this in all it's history.  Well, today they made history.
  • wombat said on Jul 13, 2008....
Queen: I got your PM and answered.  Thank you so much!  I was so happy to see your message....and the responses here, too.

Thank you Daily, woman and Queen!  LIfe goes on...

I can't believe they let you go over the phone!  That is incredibly callous.  They sure as hell better be willing to let you in to retrieve your personal items.

I'm sorry, wombie.  I think you were treated very shabbily.  I hope you find another better job very soon.  Until then, you and I can watch Price is Right together!

  • wombat said on Jul 13, 2008....
MissMimi:  I know! The shock has still not really worn off tonight.  I know why they did it this way--to avoid scenes.  If you make one, they call the cops to escort you out!  I am "allowed" to call and "make an appointmet" to turn in my badge and get my personal stuff---which is a photo of me and my son I had, an umbrella, various markers and pens and stuff.  I just want the photo.  It was the only copy of it I had of me and my son at his graduation, taken in the home where I left to move up here.  I kept it there to keep me "going" on bad days.

I will look for another job later....maybe get re-hired here?  Don't know!  Till then, Hey, how much is that can of peas?"
  • Lucytorial said on Jul 13, 2008....

Thats such a bummer wombie... I know you liked that job a lot! damn.... well now all you can do is to start looking for the door that just opened right?? one door closes another opens... has to be better has to be fabulous!

Don't worry about money, there are ways and means for almost everything! including tom dick and harry!

  • wombat said on Jul 13, 2008....
Hi Lucy:  Will Tom, Dick and Harry please send money now...ha.

I am already thinking of that open door.....Thank you so much for reading and responding.   I knew I could count on you all!

They may let you go just like that but they can't stop you from getting your personal belongings.  In my particular workplace...even when transferring to another post... I'm supposed to have security escort me out of the building.
Stupid rules.  I'm sure that somebody in the past did something that merits this but it's not fair that everyone has to pay for someone else's mess.
    That's life.

Never heard of getting axed on the phone!  Wow! That's double bummer! Get let go of and they can't even do it in person!  I'm with you, draw your unemployment, if you can. Sorry, be thinking and praying for you.   Love and Hugs going your your way right now!....*hugs*,,,,,,dee.

So sorry to hear about this. This is totally unprofessional.

Don't worry. Whatever happens - happens for the best. Good Luck and hope that your enjoy your forced sabbatical. S

Sure something good will come out of all this.

Hang in there wombat, it will get better. And remember things could have been worse. You could have been a security guard.
  • quietone said on Jul 14, 2008....
wombie, I am glad to see that you are trying your best to be positive about this rotten situation.  It was awful for them to use the phone on a SUNDAY no less.  The way things are around here, I still say something major happened with the business and they had no choice.  I am so glad you are not taking it personally! You got your review, so you know how they felt about your work!!!  I can't wait to see what is behind the next door!!  {{{{{{hugs}}}}}  p.s. don't forget to ask them for a letter of recommendation... for your next job resume!

  • FutureGoddess said on Jul 14, 2008....

Wombie -  That SUCKS!  It was TOTALLY unprofessional and more importantly totally obnoxious the way that they did this!  I am appalled by the lack of consideration!  And although I have had similar "we no longer need your services" messages delivered in such a horrendous message, it still galls me that people have the audacity to do it this way!

That said, enjoy a few weeks of unemployment, and then figure out what you want to be when you grow up.  I am a true believer that EVERY THING happens for a reason and that the Universe will provide you with an even better position.

    Good luck!  Smooches!

    I'll meet you in Woodstock!

CW:  Thanks--and yes it was a very crappy way of doing it!

RollingC:  I had to make an appointment, then walk with the lady to get my stuff across the street. I stood outside the building, looking around at familar cars and my old smoking spot....ha.

crybabylu:  Yes, it was a shocker!  I found out this morning that I won't draw very much, but I put in an application at another place already!

scipio:  Thank you--I hope something better will come along--one that won't get rid of me after just 4 months!

CayenneMan: Thanks! Loved the video---I want to see that movie, whatever it was!  It made me smile when I watched it.

quietone:  I asked about a reference, and she said they only confirm that you worked there such and such time, from the main corporate office!  I am hanging in there as best I can so far...day of of no job.  Thank you for being there for me.

FutureGoddess: I hope you are right--I usually believe things happen for a reason and that maybe something better will come along--but it feels so scary to think things might just keep going downhill!

silverwhisper:  Thanks, I needed that!  (the hug) and someone saying what I couldn't say to them in person--"you jerks!"

MillerLight:  Yes, the phone was a crazy way to find out you don't have to set your alarm for work the next day!

MeMyself&I:  Thank you.  I will be needed those prayers....mostly worried about my depression returning like it did before when I was not working.

pickersplock:  I am trying to look on the bright side.  It's not easy, though.  Yea, a roadtrip would be fun!

  • CayenneMan said on Jul 14, 2008....

wombat, the video was based on the movie . . .

"Hudson Hawk"  (1991) Bruce Willis & Danny Aiello

  • wombat said on Jul 14, 2008....
CayenneMan:  Thanks...I was interested in what was going to happen!  I never saw that movie.
  • Zaraida said on Jul 14, 2008....
Hi, W.  Geez, I'm really sorry that happened to you.  You were probably a great employee, but employers take advantage of people because they know jobs are so hard to come by.  I wish you the best in your job hunting and hope you find one soon.
  • wombat said on Jul 14, 2008....

Hi Z:  Good to see you!  Thank you.....I hadn't missed a single day, did my job quietly and stayed busy.  That didn't get me anywhere.  They let several of the newest employees go.  I hope I will find something, too.  Or else can deal with a piddly check every week for awhile without going bonkers!

Right now, I am mentally tired....and think I will just curl up in bed with a good book under the air conditioner.

But thanks to you, and to all---I feel much better!

  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 14, 2008....

Wow, the things I miss ........ sheesh!  I'm sorry to hear that the work jerks didn't have the integrity to let you go face to face.  Once you're past the shock of being unemployed I hope you take a minute to contemplate whether or not this is the beginning of something better or just a break in the workload.

My PM is always open if you need to vent.

  • crybabylu said on Jul 14, 2008....

Wombie........i am really sorry to read this....
How in the heck is acceptable now to fire a person by phone??

    Don't sweat it too much...start looking around -  immediately  - and something will come up...{hug}
  • wombat said on Jul 15, 2008....

U-I: Thank you.   I really don't know yet which this is.....a good thing or a bad thing.  I woke up sort of scared and depressed, then flip-flopped and took a shower and made plans for the day.  I have to fight to keep from curling up like a bug and not doing anything at all.  But I will do my best to hang in there.

crybabylu:  Thank you, too.  It feels funny to be home.....I was outside for a minute and saw people I know driving to work there.....I thought, 'You'd better watch your P's and Q's!  You could be next!"

gingersoul:  It is unacceptable....but with nothing you can do about it!  They didn't want scenes at work I guess.  They called everyone they let go at home on  a Sunday...unbelievable!  If I am going to draw the piddley unemployment, I have to "look  and document that I am looking"  for a job, and also call in every week.  I hate the whole process!  I am better off just looking for a job for real--rather than having to go into places and saying, Are you hiring?  Then writing down that I "checked."  Such BS!

    Thank you for the hug!
