I have a big camera story like always. To cut it short. At first I did not have my camera case with us. Beggi brought it a week after we came, when he also arrived in the islands. I was dreading that I did not have enough cards and I bought some SD cards in the free store in Iceland.
Then when we were on the round trip I a had to change cards and .my camera would not take cards anymore.  I had an other camera  and t used it.The card wish is XD card lasted until Beggi came with the other cards.
I had been warned against the Indian and Pakistan shop keepers, or where ever they are from. I once tried to buy a card and the man was gong to sell it for 50 Euros. In the end he was angry and tried to offer me a card for 10 Euros but I bet it takes 16 pictures. I just went.

Then on the day we went to the beach, we bought some things for the children's parents. We bought a T shirt for Gummi. The whole clan was in the shop. A very pretty and kind girl. I even  said to her that she was so pretty. Her father, I assume showed Pálmi a camera that takes pictures and vidioes on has all kinds of features,  he said. He showed us but he always deleted the pictures afterwards. That should have warned me.
But Pálmi said he is not pushing. This man seems to be honest. Pálmi said after we had been thinking about this camera for a while that we should wait. But oh stupid me. I did not want to wait. We bought the camera and the man even got me to buy an extra battery. I was paying 160 Euros. The man said this was Sony and he had a Sony case for it. This was not Sony but Ybersonycam.

In the evning I started practicing with the camera and everything went wrong. Anyway I know now that this is just a very bad and cheep camera. My stupidity. This just teaches me. I only had this camera the last day. The other cards were full. The camera that did not take the cards has a big history too. It is the one that was stolen from me. I will not bore you anymore but I had trouble with getting it repaired at home and it was still guaranteed. I finally got a new one instead of that one.

This dove visited us on the balcony.

This waiter was very nice and when Thor put to much ketchup on his hamburger, he started to cry I asked the waiter to clean it. He gave Thor a container box to take it home and the wee man was ever so happy.

In the walking street. We would sit down there and have a nice meal or just a drink .

I used to like this tree. Only the camera takes pictures that are askew and drawn.

We had a very good evening with my son Beggi and his friend Hulda at the same Italian restaurant we went to before. Þór is sitting between them
DIGI0077

Into the evening we went. This was our last night in Tenerife and I was trying out my new camera. Next day we checked out before 12, A bus took us at 2 to the airport and at 9 Icelandic time, 10 Tenerifean we were home at the airport. . All went well. The camera did not take good pictures and I looked for it on the net. It was no Sony just a imitation and many people have this story to tell. So people if you go to Tenerife go to a safe store if you want to buy a camera. They call them Yersonycam. They put them in Sony cases and we did not even take that home because we were afraid of customs. lol

Soaring.  This is alright it only teaches me to be more careful and I wanted to tell the story in case it would prevent someone form the same. My memories from Tenerife are happy ones.

traveling to different countries like that one does have to be very careful with their shopping. Mexico is very famous for these scams as well.  They try to sell you jewlery that is fake as genuine.. one has to know that every genuine jewlery store has to have a number on it.  This is not the camera you were having trouble with at the store I went with you to is it?
  • skald said on Jul 12, 2008....
Quiet.  They are two different cameras. The one I was having trouble at the store with was bought in the Duty free store in June 2007. It was stolen from me at the nursing home shortly mum got there. Some got frightened and put it back. Then just before Christmas it was impossible to put the cord in it to upload to the computer. I was told where to go withe the camera. I went to the store we were in. No trouble then about the guarantee certificate.  My camera was over the New Year in the shop. Then the repair men said it would be better for me to get a  card reader than to get this little thing repaired. I did.

I took the camera with me to Tenerife and I bought new cards in it in Kelfavík. When I had to change a card , it would not take the card. I found out when I came home that something was wrong withe the camera.

I went to this shop again and now they would not take my guarantee certificate. You know some of the story. They would not do anything for me, even thought they import cameras with this mark and repair them.     There is an other shop that has the guarantee and they offered to pay but they did not want to do anything so in the end the other shop gave me another camera. They did not have the same  one but I got a nice one.

The fake one has nothing to do with this   and I can't understand why I was so stupid. I have never forexample bought jewelry from  unsafe shops or  salesmen. I think the fact that he was not pushy had a lot to do with this.

I am glad to hear you at least got another camera.  Yes, those people are very tricky.. that is their business and their livelyhood.. even if it is jipping people.

I'm a camera freak......I love photography, so I can understand how frustrated I would be if I was conned for it. I spent 6 months researching alllllll the cameras out there (details others dont even usually know about) before I bought my camera last summer.

But all I have to say is........stay away from Pakistanis or Indians! They will sell stuff thats total immitation crap and charge u 4-5 times as much!  I can say that cause I'm Pakistani and I lived there for 15 years.....so I know how they are. Even *I* avoid them....lol~! I'd never trust or do business with them.....but rarely when I do......I either know the person really well.......or the product...so I can bargain with them. But foreigners dont stand a chance. lol.

sorry to hear that you were conned skald. but at leat now we learn right? anyway you still have some nice pictures in here... =)

skald I'm sorry this happened to you. " live and learn " try not to let this alter your trust in mankind to much. It's a mistake many of us make and once it is fully developed it can't be hidden and even the honest vendors will feel you don't trust them. Let your conscience be your buying guide. Good luck skald and be careful.

Ps skald, I remember buying a beautiful late model car from a soldier who was going over seas and needed to make a quick sale. Usually I will inspect a vehicle myself very thoroughly but not this time. The car ran well for a while but when I finally looked underneith of it I was in shock. The whole under carriage was rusted. It turned out to be a " flood car ". I did'nt want to rip off anyone else so I kept it but I was always working on it. I think I bought the car because of the crushed red velvet interior, it was beautiful. Whenever I would drive that car I felt like a pimp  ;-)

Skald, I am really sorry you were conned :(  I did like your photos again and it was really nice to see an updated photo of Beggie :-)  He and Gummi look so different :-)  Thanks for sharing, my friend!

    Love Polar ((((hugs)))))

Skald, I'm so sorry for what happened!  As always, I enjoyed looking at your pictures.  Looks nice and warm there (and it's not even cold here, looks like a dry warmth).  It's always nice to see a palm tree!  :-)

I don't know how you do all the traveling that you do.  I certainly couldn't keep up with you!  I think I'll travel through your pictures for the rest of my life :-)  I don't fly well at all.

You know I hate that people attempt to con others when they should appreciate the economy that tourism brings. I think in the next year or so with my many jobs I shall travel soon. Beautiful pictures Skald and a beautiful family. I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip.

Quiet.  But in the end they loose busyness, because they are not trustworthy.
Oneworldonelife Hi an welcome to my blog. Yes, if yo want to buy a camera the best thing is to investigate, not buy like I did in haste, or at a spur at the moment decision, at  not  at all in a shop like that.  All I really needed was an other cared to tie me over the last day.
I did try somewhere else but the guy wanted to sell me a card for 50 Eupos and went down to 30 which was too much. I left but before I did he tried a very small card with maybe 16 pictures for 10.
Like you said I stood no change and I might add that I was stupid. Sorry, they have to be your countrymen but as you said you don't even buy there unless you know them well or the product. I think in the end this is not going to do them any good.
I have had a good transaction with a Pakistani or Indian on Costa Brave. I bought a leather coat and it was a good one. no cheating.
Nomkeyboyx.  Hello and welcome on my blog. I think I might try Mexico one day, if I get the change.
Queen.  Yes, I still have nice cameras and I never needed that. Just shows how stupid I was. Yes, I have many pictures and it was a good holiday. And I have learned I hope.
Cayenne  Thanks for the story of the red car. I know you told me this to make me feel better. I just laughed when you said you felt like a pimp in the red velvet. Yes, you would not want to rip someone off. I know and having to repair and repair is not fun. I know that because my husband has done so much of it in his life.
Yes, I live and learn and I am certainly not letting this loose my faith in mankind.
Polar.  Gummi and Beggi were never alike. Beggi has always had much darker hair and has been thiner. I could not fit Gummi in Beggis old cloths even thought Beggi is 3 years older. Gummi was most of the time just as big as Beggi and has a different build. Adda pointed out to me that they have the same kind of eyes and so do I. We all got that from my dad.
Daily.  Good to see you honey. I don't know if I can do as much traveling in the near future as we have done lately but it is good to be able to do this. We are not getting  any younger and we have to do it while we can. There were years and years when we did not go anywhere. I am  glad that you travel with  me. (((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))
Husbandhater.  Thanks I do think these people loose busyness being so dishonest. I do hope you get to travel. It gives you so much and you can live on it for a long time. We did really enjoy the whole trip and I am not letting this spoil it. It was my own stupidly and I told this  in case  it would  prevent  someone form  doing the same.

skald---I could see me making the same mistake.  Don't think bad of yourself for it. It happens more than you know.  Some people are just very slick, unless he was conned too.  I guess that's always a possibility.  Hope you had a good time inspite of the camera mishap.  *hugs*.....:-)   dee.
  • skald said on Jul 13, 2008....
Cry  I sure did have a good time, thanks yes. and I wrote this so that maybe I could warn someone because I saw it on the net that many people had bought those in Tenerife. It is a trade there. Big smile to you.
