this quiz is courtesy of belief net, a site that i tend to find interesting on the rare occasions i check in on a site i don’t really maintain a presence on, and it’s pretty straightforward: answer 20 questions and it’ll figure out a religious/philosophical affiliation for you.

i suspect i’ve posted this before but what the heck, it’s been a while and i figure it could be fun. :>

as usual, my answers later…

I took it but it was waaaaaaaaayyyyy off.  Couldn't have been farther off as a matter of fact.  ;-)

Interesting site Ed.   It will be even more interesting to see what your results say.  I haven't forgotten you on that debate thing btw.  It's in the works.

It was pretty accurate for me. It gave me a result of 100% on neo-Pagan. I suppose that fits close enough.

    I got
    Reform Jew
    Unitarian Universalist
    Neo Pagan
    Protestant

In that order, and I am a non practising Methodist, but I'm not surprised by my results.

My 100% match was Unitarian Universalism.  I also had over 90% with Mahayana Buddhism (whatever that is) and Liberal Quakers (which I had no idea existed).

Nice blog, it gives me pause for thought and some more researching to do.

fearing: i'm awfully curious what your results were--most people i know who've taken it came in pretty accurate. ?

kyle: i'll confess, i'm not terribly surprised by that. :>

pickers: the neo pagan doesn't surprise me--but reform jew does! weird!

u-i: i kinda like that it gives links for the results, myself. and IMX, most quakers would be described as liberal. :> glad you enjoyed it. you can learn more about mahayana buddhism by following the link in your results. :>

eilan: allow me to express my utter lack of surprise at your results. :> i'll confess i'm quite curious about what mr. eilan's objections to his results are.

everythingyouthink: hi, welcome to my blog & thanks for visiting! may i call you eyt for short--it's a bit slow to type your full username? it looks, judging from the results i'm seeing, that you're in pretty good company. :>

tobi-lee: well, the quiz did allow you to weight certain questions as more important than others, which might help explain some of your results.

kelly: why, i'm shocked at your result! :D i'm curious what snuck in at positions 2 and 3, though--?

    daily: bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

dee: yep, not surprised there, myself.

z: [nods] i can see those all making sense--although i'm a bit surprised at how closely those results are grouped, i'll confess. :>

Ed, it just goes to show you, when you boil it all down, we're really not all that different.
When I took the quiz, I left all of the questions with a medium rating, because I really don't feel that one is more important than another.
Maybe I should take it again and weigh the questions and see if the answer remains the same.  I have a feeling it will.
  • soaringraven said on Jul 10, 2008....
I re-read the quiz questions and in my opinion it was engineered to produce a particular sort of result.  Many questions if not most had no choices truly respresenting my particular views therefore could not possibly end in a result that reflected my faith based views.  As with most such polls, this was merely entertainment and has no scientific or statistical validity.

Ed, Maybe it could have been a little further from the truth.  :-)  I would rather not say publicly what my results were as I would hate for my answers/opinions to be misconstrued.  If I had to say why I thought the results were so far off - it would be because IMHO, I don't believe the person writing the quiz shares my belief so  the choices were just a little off - like they had an overall understanding but no personal understanding.  Then again, maybe it was my comprehension of the questions.    Ranking the answers probably played a part in it too.
  • pickersplock said on Jul 10, 2008....

Okay, let me first say that the answers to the questions were quite limiting.  I could easily think of other answers that would have better included those who don't operate in the black and white world of polling.  But with that said, I answered the questions to the best of my ability and find my results to be humorously revealing...though I wonder what the results would have been had I been able to answer more honestly than the poll allowed me too.  Here are the results:

    c) if you are a good person you'll be saved
    d) I don't believe in heaven/I don't know

Well, none of those really fit my view.  I am not a legalist so I don't want to choose 'A'.  It seems highly problematic to say that all are saved.  I mean who wants to be chums with Hitler in the afterlife...(It's highly doubtful he repented before putting the gun to his head)...so 'B' isn't something I subscribe to.  As a Protestant, I don't believe that we can earn our way to heaven...no matter what good we've done...it is matched by our sins as well...grace is a gift from God, not because we deserve it but because he desires us to be saved out of love...so 'C' is not an option for me.  And 'D' is not an option either...yet I have to pick one of them.  Now granted, I made these examples up...but there were multiple questions where I was faced with these type answers.  It's not just this poll either.  Most polls are limited like this.  That is why I don't trust polls.  Anyway, it was fun though.  I do thank you for posting it...its a fun way to see where about you might be in retrospect to other faiths...I just don't trust its accuracy...but as a thing to do for fun...I did like it.

Simply, the answer is NO! It doesn't jibe with the rudimentary doctrines of Jesus or even our own sense of morality. Who can condemn a newborn baby for sin? Who can say Adam condemned us all by sinning? It's a crazy concept!...
