A woman accused of having sex with her 17-year-old son so her boyfriend could sell photos and video tapes of it on the internet has pleaded guilty to incest Thursday and was sentenced to 28 months in prison.

The woman, 44, also was sentenced to seven years for indecent behavior with a juvenile, for an incident involving her son when he was 13 years old.

The woman and boyfriend are not being named to protect the identity of her son.

"Her behavior was deplorable," Assistant District Attorney Tommy Block said after the plea. "A mother's role is to protect and nurture her children, not to abuse her children. She readily participated in that abuse. Even laughing on numerous videos as she committed a crime for which her boyfriend now is serving 8 years in prison."

The woman "felt like it was in her best interest to do that based on what happened to the other guy," said Susan Ciaravella, the woman's court-appointed attorney. "Having to put her son through (a trial), I don't think anybody wanted to do that a second time, and against his mom."

The boy, now 19, who testified against his mother's boyfriend at his trial, remains in counseling and lives with his biological father, Block said. "His family wants to put this episode behind them."

Kenner police learned of the abuse from an separate investigation into child pornography in October 2006, according to testimony in the boyfriend's trial.

Block said that the mother encouraged the sexual acts with her son, but it was her boyfriend's idea for her to continue the molesting "on multiple occasions."

McCabe sentenced the man on Oct. 13 to eight years for the conviction of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

The man, who denied the accusation and said his girlfriend made it all up in a blackmail scheme, has appealed the conviction, records show.

The indecent behavior with a juvenile charges stem from an incident in which the couple had sex together with their son. Authorities also had video evidence that the mother engaged in sex with another woman in front of the child when he was only 13.
