The first time my "twin" did something that shocked me was in 5th grade. It might not seem like a huge deal, but it was a sign of later things to come.
I grew up in a wealthy seaside town, and my family, having bought their house long before the town became "popular", was one of the poorest in town. Literally. My parents had clunkers (think "Oldsmobile Toronado") for cars while other families had bmw's, Mercedes and cadillacs. Still, we had good schools and beautiful surroundings.
My sister had glasses. One day, when we were about 10, I remember lining up outside of school in the morning to go into class. I looked over at my sister, who was in the next line (and class) over, and I watched her twist her glasses. I couldn't figure out what the hell she was doing. After school, I saw her with taped up glasses. She told my mom that her glasses had broke.
I didn't tell. I was surprised and didn't know what to do. I also know that it was a real hardship for my parents to pay for new glasses unexpectedly. My sister told me that she didn't like her glasses and wanted something different.
That is how I remember things beginning...
I am drowning my sorrows in a bowl full of kid's cereal - Cookie Crisp, dinner of champions. I could have easily made a case for eating cookies for dinner, but at least this way I can pretend to have eaten real food.

Well, SC - I am teetering on the brink. It seems like I should be a lot more upset than I actually am, but I am taking consolation in the knowledge that I have done the absolute best that I could. Also, there's still a chance I can achieve the grades... read entire post

Maybe it won't go down like this, but it's getting close to the wire. My academic performance is slightly better, but inconsistent, and there's no way to know if I will make the grade until we see how I do on my final exams in a few weeks.

6 more days - sounds crazy, but this is the longest I have ever gone without seeing my family, and I can't wait to go home!
My advisor made me promise I would come back - yeah, I promise. I have unfinished business here, LOL, and as much as ... read entire post
