I am stunned that someone who was to retire several years ago to spend more time with family and watch his own son race in the youth racing area is back on the circuit full-time.
What stuns me more is that foregoing a young vibrant driver who has struggled Hendrick Motorsports is signing a though winning racer, not a overly impressive driver these days either.
I grew up a big fan of Mark Martin don't get me wrong but, this retire, but don't retire method of work is appalling keeping good young drivers out of the seat to give them a chance to gain the experience. If drivers had done that when he was starting out would he be where he is now?
I have no real issue with Mark, or with Casey my issue is that if your going to retire then, get out of the car let the young guys into the seat and actually give them the chance.
Was Mears performance disappointing? Yes. But, Martin's is not exactly that auspicious in years the off and on winning is not a proven record by any means.
