Ever since reading about the Cardiff UFO sighting this whole UFO thing’s got me thinking all kinds of stuff. UFO this – UFO that – I keep looking out my 4th floor window expecting to see something fly by, or maybe get zapped by some kind of Star trek-type ray as it breaks through the clouds and puts Paris into deep freeze. Yikes. What to do if that happens? I know, I know – it probably never would and I’m being just a tiny bit paranoid. But what if something did break through the clouds and landed on the Arche de Triomphe for example? There would be global chaos, panic – but we would definitely know we’re not alone. Our view of the universe would drastically shift to say the least. Could we live with that? Maybe that wouldn’t be a bad thing.

I think it’s arrogant and naïve of us to believe we’re alone in this vast universe. We see ourselves as special – extraordinary even. Yet the earth is such a small planet and the more we find out about the cosmos, the smaller we seem to be. I wouldn’t mind seeing an alien, if only to know once and for all they exist. But I'd sure as hell freak out. And I wonder if I'd like knowing there are other beings in the universe superior to us. Would the planet spin into total chaos if we found proof that UFOs were real? Would we then constantly look up at the sky and watch for the next visit? What about the reported sightings? If they showed up - what would they do? Tase us, bro? Cook us? Choose a few select people to clone and zap the rest? People who say they’ve seen spaceships and aliens can’t all be crazy - can they?

I know if I ever saw something unusual in the sky I’d think long and hard before reporting it. The ones who did report UFOs found their lives were never the same. There's the perceived wacko factor to consider. Still, I think I'd like to see one, if only to know there’s intelligent life out there. But I’m also afraid of it. If it were proven that alien life exists, I wonder if  I (we) could handle it. Good reason for our government not to tell us. But I bet those guys know...
