An interesting story I happened to come upon and found quite interesting.

 http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080706/D91O8E100.html

This is an article regarding the 550 metric tons of "yellowcake" Uranium that was just moved across the oceans to a Canadian company where they will use it for energy purposes.  The uranium was the last remnants of Saddam Hussein's nuclear program.

I am not going to spin this story, this uranium was pretty old.  Here's a quote:

"Israeli warplanes bombed a reactor project at the site in 1981. Later, U.N. inspectors documented and safeguarded the yellowcake, which had been stored in aging drums and containers since before the 1991 Gulf War. There was no evidence of any yellowcake dating from after 1991, the official said."

The reason for my pointing out this story is this undercuts the Liberal notion of Iraq not having any WMD's.  When 3500 barrels of concentrated natural uranium are just sitting in a country who have declared the United States their enemy, constantly threatens Israel, brutalizes and subjugates their own people (even with the use of chemical weapons), and constantly lies regarding other dangerous materials then I think we have a problem.

This, safe to say, globally dangerous material was on the list of what the U.N. knew that Saddam had and could supposedly account for.  The story is vague on just how the U.N. "safeguarded" the material in a country like Iraq so I find this story to be both chilling and a relief.

At least we can say the operation was a success and it is now all out of Iraq.  There were worries of this stuff falling into the hands of the wrong people.  There are a host of unimaginable circumstances both before and after Saddam that one could make about the potential danger this stuff possessed.  God forbid if someone gave President Bush credit for facilitating the true safeguarding of this stuff.
