I have a confession to make. I had a beer yesterday evening. Later that night, I drank an entire margarita. For those that don't know what a margarita is, it is a drink popular in Mexican restaurants that contains some strong alcohol. The beer that I drank was while I was cooking my world famous burgers in my backyard. The margarita that I drank was consumed at this fabulous Mexican restuarant in town. My wife and I, along with a couple of friends stopped by after seeing the fireworks in town. You want to know the truth? I loved it! It felt good! Do I regret it? Not at all. And I would do it again.
There are some people, especially educators that are still in shock after reading what I just wrote. I can hear it now, "What? A School Principal, drank an alcoholic beverage in public? At a place students might see him?!?!?". The answer is yes and yes. As school administrators, we spend 80-90 hours a week checking lesson plans, following up on phone calls, balancing the budget, writing up teachers who show up late, dealing with overflowed toilets and just being a principal. And those 80-90 hours only take into account what we spend at our school office. Add in the countless hours we spend at home doing work for school and you are well into triple digit hours. Having a margarita is legal in all 50 states if you are over the age of 21. I am. I also made sure I was not driving or operating heavy machinery. My wife drove home. I also made sure I went straight home afterwards. I make it a point never to do work of any kind after having even one sip of wine or beer. I would make the recomendation to other administrators
as well.
Those are just a few of the rules that I, a master educator, live by. You should to. I can't wait until my next margarita. If you are in town, check out El Casa De Bravo. Not only do they have good margaritas, they make some tasty burritos as well. Just writing about it makes my mouth water.
For the Children,
Mr. Principal
