Iceland 090

I love the color of this flower.  I took the picture in Iceland.  I don't know what kind of flower it is. But, it was pretty anyway.

It's hibiscus. The ones in my garden have flowers of deep red. I'm surprised that hibiscus (which are tropical and subtropical plants) can grow in Iceland. Greenhouse culture maybe?

hi moon, I thought it was hibiscus but wasnt sure how to spell it! hahaha.... yes, this one was in a green house.  good to see ya! hope things in your family have quieted down some now.
  • moonriver said on Jul 05, 2008....
Hereabouts, hibiscus grows wild on the mountain slopes, along with sunflowers etc. Good to see you back too. Yes, things with my family are settling down now. I still can't blog a lot about it. Later, I'm sure. Btw, I saw your plane-over-Greenland pics. Fantastic... :-)

That hibiscus is beautiful!  If you love the color of it you are going to adore the colors in my kitchen (when it finally gets done).

I was going to say hibiscus too but couldn't spell it either Quiet!  lol!  Glad Moon and Botti know how.  ;-)  Beautiful picture!

    Botti cheated by copying....

Well, there's something to be said for an honest cheater!  ;-)  I still bet you could have spelled it on your own.  You're pretty sharp.
  • botoni said on Jul 05, 2008....
Fearing....you have way more confidence in my spelling than I do.  On a really dramatic day I can even misspell my own name.

moon ~ I bet the mountain sides are georgous when all the flowers are in blook there.  I would love to see that! The lupine grew wild in Iceland all over the countryside.. all I saw was the purple ones though... very pretty. yes, I was surprised to look down and see land below in the plane.  It was very grand.  thanks

botoni ~ I can't wait to see the finished kitchen when you have it all done.  I have been contemplating doing mine over in sandstone shades.

fearing ~ Thanks.  I am a terrible speller.. I guess I shouldn't let it bother me too much here!  LOL.

quietone -- I don't have with me right now the set of pics with the more spectacular views of the flower-covered slopes I told you earlier, but here are a few I found in one of my current folders:

    1. hibiscus growing wild near the ridge

    2. wild sunflowers in foggy mountain slope at dawn

    3. hibiscus, sunflowers and young pine trees near rocky ridge

A little below this spot is where I planted the araucaria sapling, which I blogged about some months ago. It's a very scenic spot, overlooking the entire valley. When the wild flowers are in full bloom, I could sit here all day and forget the rest of the world. Which, unfortunately, I can't. Lol.

Thats a beautiful flower quietone, I'm very happy you had so much fun in Iceland. skald must have been a great entertainer and tour guide to boot. You could'nt ask for more. I'm sorry Polarheart was feeling down for a bit. I'm glad to see you back safe and sound and you came home with plenty of great memories.

moon ~ That spot overlooking the valley must be just beautiful when everything is in bloom.  I love those big red hibscus.  That was sure a perfect spot for the sapling.  I remember the post.  Thanks for sharing a bit of your country here.  :)  I wish you had some  time to spend there as well.
  • quietone said on Jul 06, 2008....
Cman ~ skald and her husband both are such wonderful warm people.  She knows so much history about her country and shared more than I would have gotten with any normal tour guide I am sure. Yes, it was a trip I will long remember thanks.
