I went to one of my favorite stores, Trader Joe's, today.  You can buy a pretty good bottle of wine for a very good price, and they have lots of grocery bargains.

I was telling a good friend what I got, and I went down the list: a Greek salad, salmon filets, chicken sausage, roasted garlic hummus, and a loaf of sourdough bread.  I also splurged on an organic dark chocolate truffle bar.  I figured if it was organic, it must be good for me, right?

Her reaction was:  That's it?  I know.  What a disappointment.  I don't buy junk food anymore.  I was actually thrilled that I got the salad and the chicken sausages.  That is soooo unlike the old me.  I just don't want the bad stuff anymore.

Make no mistake, if someone offers me a cookie, I still want it.  Boy, do I.  And I did afterall buy the candy.  But if I dietarily sin, I do it selectively, and I always make sure it's something I really want.  If I'm going to blow my carb allotment on something, it's going to be something really excellent.

I guess I think that's pretty cool.

I've heard about that Trader Joe's cheap wine. Must be nice. I live in Philadelphia. Due to outdated laws that the Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has, you can only buy wine from State Run Liquor Stores. Sucks. I am not certain about New Jersey, right across the river.
    Maybe one day...

have we really sunk to this?
    Yes we have.
I can imagine you and I meeting someday like Skald and the girls have recently...we can order up some wine....bread...spaghetti...artichoke and cheese dip...followed by death by chocolate cake and bailys coffee drinks with whipped cream on the top.
we can order it up, but we will only get to eat the salad (with the chick peas, oy) a palm sized portion of lean chicken...no bread...a portion of fresh berries for dessert....
yet somehow, I think it would still be a fantastic meeting!
    wait a minute:))))
(or that above is all bullshit and meeting would be the simply amazing reason to celebrate without worry!!) which one do you wanna do?

I've tried the organic chocolate from TJs, but still prefer the too expensive Belgian stuff.  I got hungry listening to your purchases!!!  Good food doesn't have to have a ton of sugar to tempt me (though some of it does have a ton).  In fact, my most favorite snack is fresh fruit, cheese and dark chocolate, but they don't really serve that anywhere.

    Mmmmm. . . hummus.

I've never been to Trader Joe's, but I've always wanted to check it out.  I don't know that there's one within 90 minutes of us.

Well it seems I may be joining you in the restricted diet club.  At least for a while.  The doctors have me on a strict diabetic diet until they figure out what the hell happend the other day or they rule out diabetes, whichever happens first.

I am not much for sweets anyway so I really don't have much to cut out of my diet really.  Of course this does mean I have to cut out my after dinner brandy altogether.  No problem.  None I tell ya.  I can do it.

MissMimi ..... I'm very proud of your ability to get a good handle on this diet thing.  I'll admit right up front you're a much better man than me............hehehehe

queenie -- It's not always healthy, kewp, but I do try.  :)

MrP -- Welcome to my blog.  :)  We used to have state stores for hard liquors but never for wine, I don't think.

Mames, I think if we met, it would be memorable if we ate twigs and berries.  But cheesecake would be more fun.  ;)

uni -- The other day, I had a white peach, a few crackers and some cheddar.  Very unlike me, but very very yummy.  I didn't even miss the chocolate.  Hey uni, three days til baking day!

Eilan -- I also love hummus, but chick peas, straight up, are icky.  I think what I really like is the roasted garlic.  :D

soaring -- so glad you're out of the hospital!  A carb-restricted diet takes some getting used to, but it can be done.  And there are a lot of folks here in the same diabetic boat.

botty -- LOL  A better man?  Thanks -- I think!  No better man than you, cutie pie!

quilty!  {{{{{hugs}}}}}  You're back!  Did you get that European chocolate in Iceland, by any chance?
