so i guess i'm sorta back, in the very limited way i've been the past week.

and of course i've decided to post this on the day before what in the US will be a three-day weekend, as we observe independence day tomorrow.

and because i'm such a geek, i'll be spending tomorrow playing D&D. yes, the new ruleset (before sean asks)--i'm gonna be running session 1 of a setting i've been working on in some measure since high school. as a very good friend recently observed, "about time you took that puppy out of the garage and tested the tires on the flat open road".

i don't expect to be on much at all today and of course not at all tomorrow: too much cleaning & cooking to do, since our gamer buddies will be hanging out afterwards and there'll be food & alcohol aplenty. :>

so how are you planning on observing independence day tomorrow, for those of you who do?

I'm working tomorrow night, but I'm cool with it. On a related note, a co-worker of mine recently asked me if I wanted to participate in the Vampire: The Masquerade RPG. I've never done this sort of thing, although the notion appealed to me greatly when I first heard of Vampire over 10 years ago.

Ed.....Merry Independence Day!  Sounds like you're in for some great fun.  We'll be celebrating our own Calgary Stampede Parade with a pancake breakfast for some of our clients.  We'll be thinking of you and all our American friends.

I always have a big family gathering with tons of food and we end up watching fireworks. This year it is not possible with the house being, as my neighbor so lovingly said, in need of being condemned. I think we will head over to my parents' home and bring my father a little celebration picnic. I will have my daughter, who is disabled, home for the long weekend. I hope you have a great time Ed.

As I said on my own blog, barring some catastrophe, I'll be slogging through our town's annual Fourth of July 5K.

After that, I'm not sure what's going on.  If the weather cooperates, we may have another bonfire party with our neighbor.

Hey there, my geeky friend. ;-) Have fun playing D&D!

We're not doing anything this year -- DH has to work (he likes working the 4th of July because it's one of only two holidays he gets a full 8 hours of paid leave for working, and he's stuck with almost all of them anyway).

Ed....i've never been crazy of big gathering of people, parades, people wanting to have fun because its the day of having fun, screaming kids all over the places.....

Fourth of July reminds me of my Italian 15 August - Ferragosto....festivity from which, growing up, i have always tried to be away from....

So i am planning to do the same thing tomorrow.....my daughter will be with her father to enjoy the whole bric-a-brac...so i dont have to invent anything for her....:-)

I have some invitations so in case i will change my mind i know where to go...

But right now....a long day doing absolutely ANYTHING is the most appealing scenario for me..

    Have fun with your thingie...:-)

Sounds like you will have a large time!  I'm not doing too much....having a family reunion here though, and that sounds like large work for me.....!

Have fun and a belated happy SC anniversary!

I'll be working. It'll be an ordinary day here, as was Canada Day. But I wish you and all Americans everywhere a very happy, fun and safe Independence Day. I found it interesting when I read that Independence Day celebrates not the day of actual independence but the day it was declared. Apparently it took another five years of fighting with the British and assistance from the French before independence was finally won. I think the French helped just to spite the British since they were losing their foothold in Canada. So America, don't hate the French too much.

hotaka: Thanks for that information....I didn't know that at all...and I bet most people don't!

Hi, Ed.  I'm looking forward to a really nice 4th with family and an extended weekend away from home.  I did a post about my plans here.

It sounds like you have lots of fun planned.  Enjoy!

Ed:- Have fun playing D&D.  I've played similiar games but never on the internet and mostly I'll do shoot-em-up first person like Quake 2 and did that new 4 which was great. At any rate enjoy !

Hotaka:- The French helped for that reason if nothing else but the Spanish helped also.   They intercepted an expedition that was coming down the Mississipi from Canada trying to outflank George Washington, arrested the ones they didn't kill and took them in chains to Cuba.  Apparently nobody liked the British Empire too much.

jade: hey, good to see you again! good that you're cool w/ working tonight--how's the job going? and i suspect you'll have fun with the game--let me know how it goes?

botoni: thank you, and a belated happy canada day to you! have fun with your pancake breakfast--but what's the calgary stampede parade?

u-i: "whiny butt"? [chuckles] i hope that your day goes better than you fear. :>

beyond: i will always take the time to see waht you're up to, sir. :> i hope you have fun!

sis: thank you, and i certainly plan to! :>

woman: thank you, and i hope you have fun at your parents' house! i wasn't aware that your daughter has a disability--may i ask what the nature of it is?

eilan: i've got my fingers crossed for you, eilan!

ex: that's great that you've got something figured out--very cool!

infernal: that sucks about mr infernal working but i guess it's good he actually looks forward to it. :> and i'll definitely have fun. :D

GS: i'll have fun w/ my thingie, and i understand re: crowds, believe me. :> have fun with however you decide to pass the day!

moon: always a pleasure to see you, sir. :>

wombat: why thank you! i'd quite forgotten i've already hit an anniversary! but yeah, it'll be fun, thanks--a family reunion, huh? i hope you guys have a good time!

hotaka: i've always been a bit of a francophile, truth be told, and yes, it's a bit odd that we celebrate the day it was announced, not achieved. we're a bit nutty like that sometimes... :> so how's fatherhood? :>

CW: cool, will check that out--thanks! i'm hoping that the time you spend, given that you describe it as "a really nice 4th", will be with your family? :D

rollingc: thank you, i certainly intend to! diablo 2 and most such games owe quite a bit to D&D, as you probably already knew, but as i'm not too familiar w/ a lot of games, it would be hard for me to make any direct comparisons.

mulgere-hircum: may i abbreviate that to m-h? and yes, it does. :D happy independence day, and have a great time in new england! :>

Actually, I have 3 daughters. This daughter suffered from anoxia when she was born. It left her with cerebral palsy, learning problems, speech problems, and as an adult, emotional problems. She is 35 and lives in an assisted living home with 3 other ladies, but comes home sometimes for the weekend and for holidays. Thanks for asking. I ended up going to see my father yesterday (he had a stroke this year) and he wasn't having a great day, so we are staying home and continuing on the never ending remodeling project. Had a nice dinner though, had to cook for my daughter. Hope your day is going well.

If you wanna take a look, I put some of it up on the old writer's forum. I know there's stuff you're not going to like in it but I'm trying to keep it simple.

botoni: o wow--thanks for the link, sir!

woman: wow, i wasn't aware of the full scope of the medical problems your loved ones are facing. i'm sorry, i don't quite know what to say that wouldn't sound trite or glib. all i can think of is that i admire your strength.

ex: i haven't been around that way in a long time, i should pop my head in.

    fallyn: um...sorry?
