So Fox News just did this thing about Katy Perry's hit song "I Kissed a Girl". The two newscasters were exasperated that this former Christian pop signer would come out with such a naughty song, given that her target demographic is girls 12-14.
What's the big deal about all of this?
Well, Fox reports that teenage girls are doing this largely for the entertainment of their boyfriends. Apparently teens have these parties where girls make out while boys stand around and watch. Parents of teens - is this true? News of all kinds goes around as to the naughty things kids are doing and I have no idea what's fact-based or not.
Still, is this really such a big deal? I mean, it's probably safe to say girls have experimented with this sort of thing for generations. Many more boys have probably done this than they'd like to admit. I guess what can be so disturbing about it these days is that it's so public - it's not even public - with the advent of the internet and phone pics and video, these things are instantaneously global. Make out with your best friend at a party and it's on the internet for the rest of your life.
Still, what's the big deal? Given all the other important stuff going on in the world, why focus on a naughty song? This, to me, is far less "controversial" or naughty or objectionable or whatever than Robert Plant singing "I wanna be your backdoor man" in Led Zeppelin's "Moby Dick". And I like that song!
So, soucasters, is this any kind of big deal, or not?
