funny you started out talking about bees. i went with a friend of mine to their bee hives last weekend. 11 tall busy, buzzing hives. my skin crawled. there were thousands everywhere! the fresh honeycombs were unbelieveable. it was amazing time watching him caring for his bees. have you ever had fresh honey?
  • Mr_Box said on Jun 25, 2008....
I do like bees because they make honey. But sometimes its hard to get too close to them because they can sting you.

But I know there are people out there who seem to have no fear of them. And then the bees don't sting them.

I guess it's worth it to get over the fear of getting stung in order to get the honey.

  • moonriver said on Jun 25, 2008....
in the indigenous territory that i consider home, honey is gathered from hives of wild mountain bees by climbing the trees and smoking out the bees. it's all there in nat-geo. lol.

boxy's right. i haven't been stung by any bee throughout my life.

i still have two full bottles of wild honey, with pieces of bee's legs and beeswax floating in suspension. they're the best sweeteners for wild mountain tea. it figures, doesn't it?

ah but this is supposed to be a game of random thoughts.

i like ants and spiders more than bees. they are less noisy, less aggressive. take it from there.

i dont much like bees. theyre loud, and invade my space bubble, and generally alarm me. they give me creepy crawlies. most insects do. *shudder*

moon do u really? thats crazy..so if you have honey on somethin and theres a bees leg in it, do you pick it out or do you just eat it?

bees are fun because of honey, as both jack & moon said. but i'll confess that up close i find them kinda annoying. i don't usually worry about being stung but the little bastards have no sense of personal space! :D

I used to be scared of bees till my son started watching bee movie 6 billion times a day and I've kinda warmed to them now...    :-) xx

I don't mind bees, but I don't like wasps.  When I was a kid, we had a wasp nest under the front step.  My sister sprayed bug spray down behind the step, and when the wasps started swarming out, gasping their dying breaths, we whacked them with croquet mallets.

I was a lot dumber back then.  :D

hinana -- yeah, crazy. that's me haha.

let's say i made myself some tea and poured wild honey to sweeten it. (i do that almost everyday, actually.) then let's say i notice a piece of bee's leg in it. if the extraneous piece is big enough for me to fish it out of my teacup with a teaspoon, i do it. but if it's too small, i don't bother. if it goes into my mouth as i sip it, ah well, that's life. same thing with tiny ants that get into the honey jar by accident. you take the good with the bad. lol.

hey destiny -- i thought your bee epiphany occurred when you got stung on your ample... front yard  terraces?

  • pickersplock said on Jun 26, 2008....
Speaking of terraces, I just love going to amusement parks....................wait that's Ferris Wheels........only, keep me off the double  Ferris Wheel because my stomach's not what it used to be!
  • MissMimi said on Jun 26, 2008....
I love Ferris wheels, especially double ones!  But I hate rollercoasters.  They scare the you-know-what out of me.
  • evil_twin said on Jun 26, 2008....
I don't really like bees that much. But like Mimi said, I really don't like wasps. Bees usually mind their own business and just do their work. But wasps attack you! I once came across a wasps nest accidentally and the next thing I realized, I had a swarm of them stinging me just because I was standing there. Luckily I'm not allergic, but that was scary! It was like a scene out of a horror movie or a nightmare.

whats the difference between a ferris wheel and a double ferris wheel?

  • MissMimi said on Jun 26, 2008....

This is a double ferris wheel.
  • tizzygirl said on Jun 26, 2008....
I don't like bees in person but when I think about them they make me happy because the train of thought goes...bees....Winne the Pooh....and then I start to sing "I'm just a little black rain cloud hovering over the honey tree..." in my head and how can you not smile when you are hearing Winnie the Pooh serenade you :D  Oh and that double ferris wheel looks terrifying....I don't like things that go that slow though....if I'm a million feet in the air I want to be getting it over with faster....like a roller coaster, now those I like.
  • RollingC said on Jun 26, 2008....
I like honey and only the fear of being stung has kept me from having bee hives in the back yard.  I used to have jars filled with dirt and go collect ants for my own ant farm.   Amazing critters those little insects and how they work together is awsome.

When I was about seven or eight years old, I stepped on a yellow jackets bee nest.  They swarmed me and stung me all over.  They even were in my hair.  My mom stripped me of my clothes outside to get the bees off of me and immediately put me in the bathtub with baking soda in the water.  Then when I got out she took a cotton ball and dabbed vanilla extract on each of the many stings.  It was scary, but i don't remember hurting after that.  It's a good thing I wasn't allergic to bees.  I might have been a goner.

Wow CW your mom sounds like she really knew what to do in an emergency. I hope i never have to deal with something like that since i am allergic to bees. :(

The double ferris wheel scares the bejesus out of me- like tizzygirl said if i'm that high i want it over with quickly- i love roller coasters and have since the day my mom took me on my first on in Santa Cruz.

I don't see the fun in a ferris wheel at all- but that is probably due to my mom telling me about kids that fell out of one once, while we were stuck at the top...

MM&I: No, I don't believe I have had fresh honey.

Jaxl: Stinging you would kill a honeybee, so I tend to think it wouldn't happen. ;-)

moon: That wild honey sounds good, aside from the bees' legs! :-p

hinana: You might not want to know the answer to that!

ed: Personal space issues much? ;-) They do get in your face, don't they?

destiny: I could see how that might affect your opinion.

    Mimi: You did what?? Wow!

pickers: I don't do double Ferris wheels either!

Kyle: Yeah, I'm not a fan of wasps or hornets. And that sounds horrible!

tizzy: Alright, now I have that Pooh song stuck in my head!

Rc: They are impressively diligent workers.

    CW: What a bad experience!

Wish_: Your mom had some seriously bad timing. :-p

OMG MISSMIMI THAT LOOKS SO COOL.
we dont have one fo those =(
  • Wish_Upon_A_Star said on Jun 26, 2008....
i doubt she thought that fifteen years later i would still be scared to death by ferris wheels yet hop on any roller coaster.
Although when i was very young my aunt and uncle told me there were monsters in the drain in the pool and until the day that my grandparents moved i always felt uneasy by the drain. Even at 20. lol I guess i'm just that gullible
