when i began doing the “on the nature of” series, my original intention was to post it daily for the work week, monday through friday. obviously, that didn’t quite happen and fortunately, i’ve been able to lash together a few ideas and string this into a full two weeks, almost.

well, now i’m more or less out of ideas. i’m sitting here on a train, commuting to my job, and i think i’m done. as i think about this, occurs to me that i’m conceiving of this incorrectly: why not ask you guys?

so here it is: what should i make the next installment in the series?

so are you tired of hearing my themed ponderous pontifications? think there’s another topic i could go off on? am i just being a lazy so and so? comment and tell me.

I don't have any suggestions for new themes yet, but I for one am loving the series. :)

how about the nature of grief? strength? maturity? compassion?
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 13, 2006....
grief and strength i could do. if i ever discover maturity, i might have some thoughts on the matter. compassion intrigues me. ed
  • Zayda said on Aug 13, 2006....
how about the nature of attraction?
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 13, 2006....
on the nature of attraction, i know even less. :> ed
  • Zayda said on Aug 13, 2006....
i think you know more than you give yourself credit for about many a thing silver.
  • JadeLondon said on Aug 13, 2006....
Are you sure you aren't fishing for compliments? J/K! Silver, you have such innate wisdom (apparently you don't see it), that you could speak on the nature of...anything--and make it sound like a million bucks. How about the nature of lying? We all do it at some point, some more than others.
  • Zayda said on Aug 13, 2006....
Ohhh..how about the nature of family? What does it mean to be a family?
  • quidnunc said on Aug 13, 2006....
i love this series. you should go on. why not write about the nature of vanity, pride, power, or greed?
  • Alyss said on Aug 14, 2006....
Plenty of excellent suggestions already above. What about your thoughts on dealing with pain whether it be emotional distress or actual physical pain? Or fear? Or just talk about the thrill of roleplaying...
  • happykat said on Aug 14, 2006....
depression, compassion, compromise, happiness, etc etc C'mon, Mr. Know-it-all. You can write about the nature of kiwi fruit hair!
  • Heartwalker said on Aug 14, 2006....
How About the nature of GOD ? That should give you enough material for a lifetime, and you have lots of variety in choosing the various aspects of HIM, and you can, with your splendid english and amazing coherence of thought do ample justice to the topic.
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 14, 2006....
heartwalker: i am an agnostic. my blogging about the nature of god is just a tad problematic for me. :> HK: :p there's a lot of good suggestions here, guys, thanks! [trout-smacks jade cuz she's a doofus] :D ed
  • Heartwalker said on Aug 14, 2006....
    I didn't know that. I am a gnostic.
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 14, 2006....
by that do you mean you're one of ||{1}|| guys? ed
  • Zayda said on Aug 15, 2006....
How about the nature of humor? Or, since, as an agnostic, you can't write about the nature of god, what about the nature of spirtuality?
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 15, 2006....
i don't think anyone understands the nature of humor, super z. i did have the crazy idea of doing one on each of the seven deadlies, though. that could be interesting. ed
  • Zayda said on Aug 16, 2006....
Actually, I think doing one on each of the seven deadlies would be interesting and for some, there would be connections back to some of the "on nature of"s that you have already posted. I thought of another one because of a Hennesy commerical. on the nature of character
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 17, 2006....
i think i addressed that on my absolutely least-successful installment: on the nature of manhood. :> ed
  • scalywag said on Aug 25, 2006....
silver....a few of my favorite topics:

    tolerance / intolerance

    intimacy

    foregiveness

I might consider tackling them myself but you articulate much better than I; I don't think I'd do them justice.
  • scalywag said on Aug 25, 2006....
ok, so I just noticed your 'nature of sex' blog...I haven't read it yet but maybe i should have
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 25, 2006....
scalywag, stop that: you're colossally articulate about the things that matter to you. i've been reading your posts for some time now. i'm no more articulate than are you.

tolerance/intolerance is a good one, as is intimacy.

forgiveness...sadly, this is one that i evidently do not know at all well so i don't feel qualified to speak on the matter.

I had an idea for this series today as I was driving home from work...but I've lost it...and it's making me crazy.

    Ohhh..forgiveness.....hmmmm....
  • scalywag said on Aug 26, 2006....
silver.....thanks for the kind words. I don't think i was really knocking myself down there....well, maybe I was. Shit, i didn't even realize it.

I guess I'll have to think of some experiences I've had, through them I can best develop and express my thoughts
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 26, 2006....
scaly: o, you were. but that's OK: takes one to know one and all that.

you're a pretty smart guy so i'm curious to see what you come up with. :>

  • scalywag said on Aug 26, 2006....
oh, man, how did I get myself in this position.
  • Zayda said on Aug 29, 2006....
ohhh...how about on the nature of guilt?

    or the nature of respect?

    or the nature of self-esteem?

or the nature of...ermmm..i lost what i was going to say.
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 29, 2006....
on the nature of focus? on the nature of memory? :>

    [ducks]

    guilt, respect...those i can do, i think. i'm intimately acquainted w/ guilt.

    [smirks]

stop being snarky and get me good coffee. :p

and besides, we all know that you can't write on the nature of memory since you have a horrible one. well at least i know that.
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 29, 2006....
get you coffee? i'm sorry, have you mistaken me for a cabin boy? :>

    ed
  • Zayda said on Aug 29, 2006....
    :p

okay, okay, send me cabin boys and make sure they bring good coffee, por favor!
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 29, 2006....
how about a whole platoon of 'em. :>

    ed
  • Zayda said on Aug 29, 2006....
platoons of cabin boys are good...very good indeed.
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 29, 2006....
if they get misplaced, i'll have to send out a search party to find 'em. if they get too lost, they'll have to send out dogs to look for 'em.

    ohhh...

    on the nature of self-esteem
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 30, 2006....
that one, i don't think i can write, super z.

    ed
  • Zayda said on Aug 30, 2006....
actually, i think you have more to say about that than you realize you do.

but i also understand how it would be difficult to write.
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 30, 2006....
i'll take a crack at it for tomorrow.

hope your back's feeling better today.

  • Zayda said on Aug 30, 2006....
my back is much better but i am miserably sick.
