Ever since 9/11, there has been speculation about more terrorist attacks in the future.  I am sure we all are grateful that to date, we haven't experienced another one.

I am asked periodically, when discussing world events, if I think there will be another one.  I always have to stop and ponder that question, because I don't want to say anything out of fear.

How about you?  Do you think we are safe from further attacks happening on our soil?....

To Me, Its pointless to fear what might happen.

Thats how we got into the current war in Iraq.

Granted there was more to it than the possibility they had WMD's. Saddam's regime had a long history of genocide and needed to be taken down

I'm glad that Saddam was removed from power, however; I don't know if taking him down warranted a war in Iraq, or that we should have stayed this long.  The jury is still out on that one.  I don't like it that this war has cost so many lives, military or civilian.

.By dwelling on a possible scenario of terror attacks we become hostages to our own imaginations

.No matter how bad something is we can always imagine worse.

Terrorists around the world have seen how we react when attacked, but I still don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

I don't believe so. The United States historically hasn't had terrorist attacks of that magnitude on the homeland.

Granted, the U.S. is a relatively young country compared to its counterparts.
It's possible, but I believe if we do have any, they are going to be minor ones here and there.

I Do think that our intelligence is much better than before 9/11.  They might have gotten slack before then because we never encountered such a serious attack on our own soil before.

Yes, I believe so. I hate to say it, but it seems that so many other countries are hating the US more and more. And now that our enemies have the technology and intelligence to make harmful weapons, I think it will happen.

I sure hope you are wrong, dancingdiva.

    duke----Thanks

I doubt people will stop trying to harm us, however we might respond or act. One of bin Laden's biggest complaints against the US was our military presence in Saudi Arabia. Well, we closed down our huge base there and Al Qaeda is still reportedly plotting against us. We gained no points, no security, nothing by conceding to the terrorists' demands.

Being the biggest and most powerful makes us the most tempting target. This is something we're going to have to learn to live with, guard against, and fight when it's most appropriate.
