According to William Szlemko, this “road rage” stems from the idea being territorial. Since a car is considered private property by its owner, putting bumper stickers is the owner’s way of marking his territory. So in the event that something bad happens to them on the road or to their vehicle (deemed “private property”), drivers of a bumper sticker-filled vehicle has a higher percentage of expressing aggressive behavior like honking or tailgating compared to the those who don’t have that much or any bumper stickers on their cars.
The funny part here is, regardless of what the sticker says or looks like (whether it be good or bad), if a car has tons of them stuck to it, its driver has a high chance of losing it if he or she ends up being aggravated on the road.
So if you just happen to see a car covered in bumper stickers while driving, stay away from it. Unless you’re really keen on looking for a fight.
