  this is not internet speed related, it is completely server speed. iow, it is local to the sc server, not the connections. in the past, when there has been this type of service, it's because they're making a major change to the site. the last time it was like this was when they changed the 'most popular' list, a change that on the surface may look minor, but in the background takes a core change of the system to accomplish. i wonder what new feature we're going to see in the next week or so?

  hmm, things seem to have settled since yesterday afternoon, and no new features. perhaps they were replacing some core hardware to make the connections faster, or had a server go down and had to limp along with one or two less.
