Mountain Beavers, no it is not a term for women from the Rockies. They exist and I have proof. We have mounds down in our backyard, these mounds are too big to be moles and so we got to asking and were told we had Mountain Beavers. We don't live anywhere near mountains.
I thought, "Ok this is probably a joke, kind of like Rocky Mountain Oysters, just nod your head and smile." So I did, but upon further investigating I learned that there is really an animal called Mountain Beavers.
My sons were outback clearing some brush, they came up carrying a box and yelled for us to bring the camera outside. I went outside and much to my surprise, they had caught a Mountain Beaver. These are strange little critters, they burrow like moles. They have long claws for digging and are blind. They have teeth like a beaver and a body like a large rodent, but they have stubby tails like a hamster.
This little guy was not happy about being caught and had bitten through the toe of my sons tennis shoe but didn't get his toe, thank goodness. They have strong teeth and jaws and had snapped a stick in half like it was nothing.
So now for your viewing pleasure, I present to you.........the dreaded "Mountain Beaver", this is not for the faint hearted.
