Here are the details.

I've decided that I have some mental block stalling my journey to that Marilyn Monroe body I want.  I know what foods to eat, but there is a little demon in me that is big on sabotaging my efforts.  I've had it.  I don't know how to overcome this hurdle on my own.

So, as luck would have it/or as an answer to a prayer, I heard an interview on the local radio station with an R.N. who has become a certified hypnotherapist through the hospital about 30 miles from here.  I stewed over it for about a week.  Then I found the hospital's website and read about her qualifications and gave the number listed a call.

Much to my surprise, I got to talk directly with her.  She explained how her program works.  There are eight one on one sessions tailored specifically to my needs.  I was very impressed that it is so indepth.  I really feel the pressure to get over this mental block, so I made an appointment.  My first session is Wednesday morning and she said it will last two hours.  The rest of them will be about an hour.

It's expensive because my insurance does not pay for it.  I'm looking at it as an investment in me though. I figure it will cut my medical costs down the road. If I can be thin, my doctor has told told me that my medicines will go away.  I will more than likely not live every day in fear of the diabetes as I do now.  It will be completely under control by having lost the weight and eating right.  That's the incentive she pumps me with anyway.  I could at the very least be on smaller doses.  I hate the thought of the side affects that prescription medication has over time.

I'm very nervous.  I really want this to work.  Please send me your good vibes.  It is through a hospital so I feel it's very legitimate.  I need this.

I'll let you know what the first session like after its over.

CW - I admire your motivation to change.  That is the greatest obstacle.  I recently heard that people who lose just 10% of their body weight drastically reduce the risk of diabetes and its complications.  Sometimes, when we look at a project in its entirety, it becomes overwhelming.  Just put one foot in front of the other, my friend.  Get yourself to the RN and over the mental hurdle.  Believe you can do this, cause you certainly can!

    wish,
Thank you for your support.  I do believe it's a mental block.  I'm setting out to remove it.  My first appointment is tomorrow. Dropping the weight will make me feel like a new person.

cw, i wish you the best of luck. marilyn monroe would be fine, but i think a nicole kidman or keira knightley would suit you better... *wink* seriously, though, just reducing the threat of diabetes would be a big win for you already. i agree. you should try it.

    moon,
I could be a Nicole Kidman.  She has a timeless beauty.  :-)  Tomorrow is the big day for my first appointment.  Thanks for your encouragement.

CW~ I wish you the very very best of luck. You are engaged in a difficult battle and being at your fighting weight does help. Diabetes does not really go away when you are at an ideal weight. It just improves and your need for medicine may be put off for some time. That is a victory. Go for it CW.
  • CreativeWoman said on Jun 17, 2008....
    UI,
Thank you.  I will let you know how it works.

    woman,
I know that diabetes will be with me forever. That's an inescapable truth.  I do know that my excess weight doesn't help my long term health especially with my family history.  I would like to be thin for many reasons.  I think that my blood pressure and cholesterol will improve greatly with a drop in weight.  It may help to prevent future complications. It will surely be one less thing to stress about.  Thank your for your support and sage advice.

    Hi CW,

I think that you have probably made a positive move in the right direction.Life is full of choices.sometimes we make the wrong ones and sometimes we make the right ones.I've learned that in most things in life that people are resistant to change.
I think however that you have DEFINITELY made the right move in the right direction.I have a very close friend - she has had diabetes since she was 4 - so i know what the medication can do.
If losing the weight is the incentive to drop the medication - the I wish you all the best with it,and i trust that you would keep us up to date with your progress.I,for one,am rooting for you.Good Luck.

CW~I think I equate sage with ancient men sitting upon the peaks of famous moutains. Please do the think of me as ancient!!!! It's just that I KNOW this battle, including the weight thing. I have come to believe that medical science has not really discovered what makes some people heavier. It is not about weakness, or lack of will power, or lack of character. I suspect someday it will be determined to be just how we are wired, another gene issue, and to go against that is so very difficult. It is possible but it is difficult. And of course weight loss will help all the things you mention and probably more. You do it CW and know that I do not believe for a second that you were ever an ugly duckling.

    woman,
To me sage means wise.  :-)  I think of a really cool spunky lady when I picture you.  No worries about the ancient part.   I think that your theory about weight is spot on.  People who have never had a weight problem, doctors included, have no idea how hard it is.  I would like to live the rest of my life thinner and healthier.  I want to be "beautiful" instead of "cute".  Vanity is at play to a certain extent along with my healthy intentions. :-)

CW, I will be thinking of you.  Let us know how you get on.  I stand with you in this you know of course.  I am very blessed that I found Slimming World and somehow the weight just keeps dropping off with little or no effort. . .I really dont know how its possible.  The only down side is that none of my clothes are fitting me, which is a bit expensive to replace.

All the best to you dear, SkinnyW!

I know the feeling as it took me forever to lose weight and even longer to quit smoking. It doesn't matter how healthy the trend is but making it part of your daily routine is hard to say the least.
I know that your condition at the very least will improve drastically, if not go away altogether.
It, however, has to become a lifestyle. You have to get used to hunger....getting up from the table before you fully satisfy your hunger and eat the right foods watching the calories.   I went from approximately 240lbs to 223lbs since Jan or Feb. this year without excersice....just watching what I eat.

I hope this really works for you CW.  Hopefully this lady will be able to help quench the urges to eat right and be able to say no to certain foods that wouldn't be good for you.  My pastor and church treasurer both have troubles with diabetes and their weight, losing the weight will help and make you feel better.

    Love you honey!

    Hi CW!
Today's the day!  I'm anxious to know how it goes!
You are so motivated, it HAS to be a mental block.  You did your walking all the time, Curves and God knows what else...I have to agree with this being a mental block.  That and the Diabetes taking over in the front of your mind.
I'll be back to see how it went!

    Polar,
Congratulations with your wonderful success!  It has to make you feel wonderful.  :-)  Keep it up. Thanks for the encouragement.

    queen,
    Thanks for the positive vibes!

    Rc,
The hypnotherapist, who is also an RN, said that I am obviously eating the right kinds of things since my blood sugar is under such good control.  So this is going to more about behavior modification than what I am actually eating.  I need to reprogram by inner self-talk and learn to enjoy exercise a bit more.

Congrats on your weight loss!  That is fabulous!

    rmuxagirl,
Thank you.  One of the affirmations she set for me was to find myself wanting quench my desire for creativity instead of my desire for food.  She really gets specific.  I can see myself thin already.  :-)

    Love to you too.

    Daily,
We talked a lot about how I can learn to think more in terms of what I want vs what I can't have.  I will probably do a post on that a little later.  She makes the sessions specific to what I want to happen.  I left feeling really good and full of confidence that I will succeed.  Thanks for always supporting me.

    biggimpyguy,
I can understand that fight you wage.  I'm younger than you, but it's been a long haul for me too.  We try and try and it feels like we spin our wheels sometimes.  My hypnotherapist told me that she saw a 76 year old woman who lost 40 pounds.  I've decided I want to be her new poster child.  :-)  Thank you for visiting my blog.  Please come back soon.

Late in seeing this, but good luck on the therapy!  I don't know about weight loss, but someone in my family went to a hypnotherapist for smoking, and quit that same day.  So I think there is a good chance you will be successful.

    Sending good vibes!

I must confess to a rather limited unerstanding of hypnotherapy.  I've never spoken to anyone who has undergone it for behavior modification and motivation which is basically what you are doing.   I have spoken to a few who have undergone such therapy for the purpose of discovery and they have said that the experience was satisfying in that they learned something they had previously known but had hidden away.

I don't think I am trusting enough to allow another to have that level of control over me, even if only for a brief moment.  I would forever wonder what the practitioner might have left behind by way of suggestion.

I'd love to say hypnotherapy is garbage.
I personally don't believe in it.

Problem is, someone I trust used it successfully.
    It CAN be helpful.

    Best of luck.

    soaring,
At no time did I lose control of myself during hypnosis.  In fact, I remember everything she said and even interacted to questions during the session.  She is a hypnotherapist and RN at a hospital.  I felt very comfortable.  I wouldn't have let just anyone hypnotize me.  She is credible.

    DM,
Thank you.  It is helpful to me already. :-)  My inner self talk is noticeably kinder right now.  :-)

I wish you alot of luck but take it slow. I know people who have had surgery that only allows them so much food intake. They have lost alot of weight and have kept it off and they look great. But I'm not sure if their really happy or not. They seem to eat only some of the things that they used to.  If ever your in my neck of the woods give me a call, you can help me cut my grass. I usually loose about five or six pounds while doing so. Bring your husband along he can powerwash the inside of my fence .  .  . it's starting to show signs of moss growth.

    Cayenne,
Thank you.  My whole goal is to be healthier.  This is just getting my mind right so I can do that.  :-)

You sound like Tom Sawyer getting people to whitewash the fence.  :-)  Dropping some weight would be a bonus to the big task of that lawn you have.  I could help.  It's always more fun to help someone else out than to do your own.

    And, thanks for the snip.

  • woman said on Jun 27, 2008....
10 pounds already?! Wow. Are you exercising a lot? Are you eating healthy things? How is your blood sugar responding to all of this? Nosey, aren't I?
  • CreativeWoman said on Jun 27, 2008....
    woman,
I am not exercising any more than usual, but that will be addressed in a future session.   I do find that my attitude is lighter and more positive.  I've been eating healthy things all along.  I do find I want more food at meal times and then I forget about food in between.  If the thought I food pops up, I am turning to creative things instead.  My mind and body are in agreement of my goal.

Through the hypnosis, I am asked questions that I respond to and I'm learning a lot about myself.  Any suggestions I'm given under hypnosis are in response to issues I've identified.

Sometimes my blood sugar is a little high at the meal right after the session because I've discussed painful personal issues I have had about myself and my weight.  Otherwise I am fine.  In fact, one of my main goals through the hypnosis is to let the seed grow in my subconscious  that I am healthy with no need of prescription medication of any kind.

Just watch me do it.  :-)

  • CreativeWoman said on Jun 27, 2008....
    Thank you, woman.

The hypnotherapist has also recommended reading The Law Of Attraction by Michael L. Losier.  I am finding that to be positive reinforcement as well.

I see myself thin for the first time in my life.  It feels great.
