Presidential candidate John McCain called for a lifting of the federal ban on offshore drilling.  This is what is going to put him into the White House.  Despite what Liberals and the enviro-crazies are crying about global warming we need to be drilling right now.  It is monumentally ridiculous that we are held hostage by the world market over a resource we can get from our own country.

People are hurting because of high energy prices, primarily gas prices.  Barrack Obama's plan is more fantasy talk about alternative fuels and take a wild guess; raising taxes on the oil companies.  Neither of these two is any "change" from before, and neither will help Americans.

John McCain is right and will get hammered in the media because he has reversed his position from 2000.  He also seems to be buy into the global warming hysteria and is against drilling in the ANWR.  This move presents him as more of a sensible moderate.  On one side he shows he gives a crap about the environment and on the other side he is telling Americans that he understands we need to stop paying high prices for something we can get from our own country.

If I were the Obama campaign I would be worried.  This was a major downside of John McCain among Conservatives and moderate Liberals.  Now that he has come out and clarified with the American people that he understands we need to be drilling now, it is going to help him.  High energy prices hurt everyone from both sides and McCain has put forth a clear plan of action.  Between suspending the gas tax and lifting the federal ban on offshore drilling this is going to put him in the White House.

Dubya's OWN administration admits ANWR has a maximum of a six month supply of oil.

Concern over ANWR isn't concern over global warming.  Oil is oil and CO2 is the same no matter where you get it.

Permitting drilling offshore brings minor relief (from what I've heard) ten years from now.  I'd rather make electric cars that run off coal that we already have and can make from wind farms that aren't fantasy.  they are reality and growing exponentially.  Solar film has been developed that is on par in cost with coal power.  Production begins next year.

McCain lives in the 50's and every policy reflects this mentality.  He has no grasp of planning and his reliance on doing things the old way mean that new technology will be dominated by foreign firms in China.  We'll give up Arab masters for Chinese ones.  I'd rather we took hold of our own destiny.

If the inevitable dead end of oil use can be made clear to the voters, McCain's surefire selling point will become a calamitous anchor around his neck.

Right now we import 60% of our oil from other countries, many of which are very bad places from bad people.  We are being held hostage by the oil market.  There are two forms of energy that are (right now) the only forms that can satisfy our needs.  Oil and nuclear power.

The zillions of dollars that has been pumped into alternative fuels has amounted to nothing except now along with high energy prices we have high food prices.  Regardless of how long it takes to get oil from our own land it is going to take longer to replace oil with any alternative out there.

Don't you think we should have a replacement for oil before we stop using it?

The possibility that violence will boil over after this election? I see bitter divisions hardening and polarizing. I see some real crazy folk with nothing left to lose. And would-be Presidents have abandoned Hope and are engaged in dueling with Fear...
