People are hurting because of high energy prices, primarily gas prices. Barrack Obama's plan is more fantasy talk about alternative fuels and take a wild guess; raising taxes on the oil companies. Neither of these two is any "change" from before, and neither will help Americans.
John McCain is right and will get hammered in the media because he has reversed his position from 2000. He also seems to be buy into the global warming hysteria and is against drilling in the ANWR. This move presents him as more of a sensible moderate. On one side he shows he gives a crap about the environment and on the other side he is telling Americans that he understands we need to stop paying high prices for something we can get from our own country.
If I were the Obama campaign I would be worried. This was a major downside of John McCain among Conservatives and moderate Liberals. Now that he has come out and clarified with the American people that he understands we need to be drilling now, it is going to help him. High energy prices hurt everyone from both sides and McCain has put forth a clear plan of action. Between suspending the gas tax and lifting the federal ban on offshore drilling this is going to put him in the White House.
