I think I might have missed the last one, or my memory is bad one, but can I come to this one?  I am thinking Smokies in a crock pot cooked with ketchup, maybe baked beans and a bit of grape jelly.  Delish!

I want to meet YOU, of course!  And believe it or not, I was just on the phone with quietone and we were just talking about this!  Meeting people for real.  Too many to mention, but, you, and the entire gang!  And more!

How will I get there?  I would have to play sick from work and buy a ticket.

Guess I will have to come only in my mind.  (I will also bring drinks, chips and dip and ice)
  • botoni said on Jun 13, 2008....

You're right Wombie.  You did miss the last one.  Smokies in a crock pot is a fave of mine and baked beans!  OMG....you're my favorite.

So who are you hoping to meet and how you getting here.  Wombats only travel on the red eye?

  • Lucytorial said on Jun 13, 2008....

  • botoni said on Jun 13, 2008....

Lucytorial....a potluck is a gathering where everyone brings a pot of something to eat....a bit like a church social.  Please do come along.  I'm so looking forward to what you'll bring and who's on your most wanted list.  Irish stew would be wonderful!

Wombie...I'm sure Lucy, Zayda, Daily, Mom, Pickers, Skald will be along 'cause they were at the original party.

I suggest you send a pm to the other guests you'd like to meet and invite them to come along.

  • Lucytorial said on Jun 13, 2008....
Stuff the Irish stew, I'm doing a vindaloo! yummeeee 5 hour cooked home made vindaloo and I want to meet pretty much everyone on my subscribers list.

Although I have a few special people I'd probably knock over running to them te he he.

Just gotta find my magic carpet though, traveling by plains a little too expensive these days.
  • wombat said on Jun 13, 2008....
That would be alot of PM's...but I hope this party rolls!  Will be packing my crap and finding the path....

i can hardly wait to see that brand-spanking-new kitchen of yours!
  • naturalboi said on Jun 13, 2008....

Hey, since I arrived fifteen months late for the last one, that makes me just in time for this one.  How cool is that?

My almost 2400 mile road trip was way tiring and of course my car gave a moment or two of anxiety.  The repair shop told me I need a new engine.  He suggested that I look into something a little newer though.

My culinary skills are pretty much limited to the making of fresh fruit smoothies (I've checked out Zayda's list of smoothie recipies)  Frozen fruit works just as well actually, but there's nothing like using fresh fruit.  Other than that all I know how to do is tear up greens for a salad or cut up veggies for a veggie/cheese/bread platter.  Oh yeah, I make a killer ranch dressing, and a pretty good french/garlic dressing.

I'm not real good at meeting new people, but just to play along I have to say that I'd like to meet soaringraven, my other adopted soulcast grandfather.  He seems freakin' cool.  Also maybe Zayda, cause we're in the same business.   Though I don't think she'd like me if we actually met,  I'm too freakin' weird to be a lit teacher.  There are many more that I have come to know a little bit here that might be interesting to meet. too freakin many to list.

    love nature and stay cool

  • botoni said on Jun 13, 2008....

Pickers.....Cheesecake is wonderful and so are mojitos!  OH...I'm getting excited.

Wombie....I was wondering who that was under the covers.

Lucy........Vindaloo!  I know what it is but I've never had....Sounds delicious, I'm thinking I'm might need a little yogurt and cucumber to cool my palate down after.

YAY Secret!  Chili and bread!  Margaritas will work wonders and dragging Mobil along with Ginger, Jenna and Daily is a superb idea.  It's just a short hop from his house to mine.

Boi....If I know Zayda (and I do) she'll adore you.  She's a right fine gal and since she likes me I m more than sure she'll like you.

Oh yeah, and good luck getting the green jello past the sanitarium guards,  Tell them it's moldy rice pudding, they'll let you take it out with you.  They're not too bright!

    Good to go.............now.
  • botoni said on Jun 13, 2008....
Yayyyyyyyyyyyyy mom!  You made it here.  Green Jelloed Taters is a fave of yours I know.  Cant wait to duck it.  I too am looking forward to the Carwheel Lucy and the hoohoo wine trick.  It's a lovely drive from your shack to mine.  The route that you could take north through Waterton is beautiful but then the Koke and the #3 all great too.  Bring hubby along.  We'll grab some doggy treats for him.
  • botoni said on Jun 13, 2008....

Boi.....It just might be sacralidge (sp?) to actually eat green jello and taters.

Wombie......Keep Secret busy handing those Margaritas  (Maragitti?)

  • Zayda said on Jun 13, 2008....
BottyLuv: I'll be bringing my charming self, of course. ;)

    And my culinary skills.

You're having a grill top on your stove, right? So, I'll make us some Chicago Style Steak with Blue Cheese Butter and some grilled corn on the cob. And I'll whip up some Salmon Potato cakes.
  • botoni said on Jun 13, 2008....
Whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!  Zayda!.....You've got full access to both the stove top grill and the BBQ.  You know I'm a carnivore at heart.  Cant wait to sink my teeth into that Steak with Blue Cheese Butter.  Can I lean over your shoulder and learn?
  • MissMimi said on Jun 13, 2008....

I was there last year too, botty.  How about if I bake something chocolate and decadent?  Chocolate Caramel Brownies?  How do I get to your place?  Go West and turn right?

    Zee, we can carpool. :)

  • moonriver said on Jun 13, 2008....
botoni -- This Asian monkey sure be there. Me bring two dishes. My banana heart dish, and my world-renowned bat soup. Just say when and where exactly.

  • polarheart said on Jun 13, 2008....
Aww, thanks for the invite, Botbabes!

Hhhhm, if I remember correctly i brought boboti last time. . .so, this time I think I'll bring a starter and a after :-)

For starters - Butternut squash and red pepper soup - which we can have hot or cold.

And for afters - Meringue nests topped with mixed berries and freshly whipped cream.  Or baked banana topped with grated chocolate and freshly whipped cream.

I can wait to meet everyone.  Of course I would have already met Skald and Quietone in Iceland.  I'd love to meet Fearing, Truthsayer, Moonriver, Hotaka, Wombat and of course YOU and all my other SC buddies here :-)

    Cant wait!

Wasn't I late for this last time?  LOL!  I might have to be late again!

I want to meet EVERYONE that I read!

This year I'm going to change up my plate a little bit.  I'm going to bring Pierogi's.  Not the dessert kind, the kind with ground beef and sauerkraut  and another batch with Farmer's Cheese.  They take FOREVER to make, so excuse my absence while I'm busy in the kitchen.

Can't wait to see you all!

  • hotaka said on Jun 14, 2008....
I am not sure what I'll bring. I might just go to the supermarket and see if I can't get any ideas and then improvise. That's how I cook usually and it turns out alright. So count me in on being there with something!
  • scipio said on Jun 14, 2008....

Yes, count me in. More than the food - its the company - I crave. It would be nice to meet all those lovely Soul Casters....

Since everyone is bring something exciting to eat - I will just come with my appetite. But then can't come empty handed so here I go.

For starters, I will bring some fried halloumi cheese and green salads. Lemon and Mint juice

For the main - juicy lamb chops and chicken "biryani"

For dessert - Tiramisu - Black Forest cake, sherbets and icecreams of assorted flavour

Followed by selection of cheeses and good wine.

  • woman said on Jun 14, 2008....
Can I come too?? I'll bring pasta salad and corn bread. Oh, and chicken to grill. Do I get an invite?? I surely would like to meet all of you.
  • botoni said on Jun 14, 2008....

MissMimiCakes!  Chocolate is the way to my heart.  Can't wait to sink my dentures into them.  Directions to get here are easy.  Drop in on Mobil by coming west then make a sharp right and travel North.  You'll find my house with ease.  It's the one with the dumpster in front.

Moon!  Bat soup is a delicacy we've all been just itching to slip down our throats.  You might find the Banana Heart sells a little better.  Will you bring your Asian friends from Vancouver?  This event is being held to celebrate the completion of my renovated kitchen so the when is a difficult answer.  I was hoping for the first of June but that's obviously past.  I'll joyously announce that event when it happens....I've fears that it might be awhile yet.  Where is easy.  Find the best Asian market in Calgary, go six blocks north, make a right and look for the dumpster.

Frozen Ticker!  Not long ago I whipped up a red pepper bisque that was super.  I'm betting the squash and red pepper will be a marvel.  Your boboti recipe has made it to my table several times and everyone enjoys it.  Berry meringue is a wonderful thought.  I've got a huge patch of strawberries we can harvest them for the treat.

Daily!  Pierogies with meat and saurkraut and more with farmers cheese!  I'll get a pot of melted butter with chopped red garlic and green onions to garnish them.  Yummmmmmmm!  Shall we plan another trip to Flake/Cereal?  They've promised to leave the sidewalks out and the bar is waiting for us.

Hotaka!  Fresh goodies are always great and I have every faith that you'll come up with something excellent.  Your company is anticipated.  Maybe we can slip out to the sand hills for more discoveries.

Scipio!  How lovely of you to join up in the parade of great SCrs who are coming.  Chicken biryani would be wonderful and fried halloumi cheese sounds like a winner.  Thats new to me.  I'll have to see if I can find some here.

  • queenparanoia said on Jun 14, 2008....

    filipino food!!!!!!!

i'll bring adobo, mechado, pinoy spaghetti, paela, lumpia or sprng rolls and rice!!!!!!!!!!!

i'll bring some halo halo and mango float for dessert!!!

  • dailyachesandpains said on Jun 14, 2008....

    botti!

Oh I knew I was forgetting the butter!  Thank you so much!  Ant the red garlic sounds PERFECT!  Are you sure you don't mind running out to get that for me?  I hate to ask you to go to the store in the middle of a get-together.  My back's killing me here making these damn things.  It'll all be worth it when I'm done.  OH FLAKE! YES!  How could we not go to the bar!  Are you sure they'll want us back after last year?  They have to roll out the red carpet for us!

  • moonriver said on Jun 14, 2008....
bottie -- Got that. Oh, and I'm thinking, "Hmm. Maybe they'll like butter-fried great red ants' eggs for dessert." I'm so excited, I'm positively drooling already, in all the right places. Lol.

  • botoni said on Jun 14, 2008....

Queen!.......I love all of them and cant wait to get a taste of your versions.  I'll take care of the luchon and I'll have plenty of ice on hand for the halo halo.

Daily!  Actually everyone in Flake is just aching to have us all drop in.  The red carpet is being vaccuumed for the event!  Just so you know, I bought red garlic to plant and it's now growing in my friends garden.  We'll have plenty.  Next year we're adding elephant garlic to the plantings.  (My friend plants and tends the growing things.  I have a purple thumb when it comes to gardening.)

  • kruuyai said on Jun 14, 2008....
My memory is bad on this one, too... but how about if, this year, I bring the mushy peas?  And on the side, a bit of diced sweet potato cooked with pineapple chunks and coconut slivers?
  • silverwhisper said on Jun 14, 2008....
it would take quite a bit of doing to get there, but if you're hosting with that brand-new kitchen of yours...

i suppose i'd bring a curry recipe i developed a few years ago now that i know isn't really authentic (sorry, diabolic!) but i've always found pretty tasty--and out of respect for kruu, i'll even make it vegetarian-friendly. :>

oo, and maybe a growler or two of my favorite brewpub's hefeweizen. :>

    ed
  • kruuyai said on Jun 14, 2008....
    Thanks ed!  :)
  • botoni said on Jun 14, 2008....

Kru!  Moooooshy peas!  Havent had them in a long time and I love them.  Sweet spuds with pineapple sounds like a taste treat.  Bring all the pirates with you if you'd like.

Ed!.....Curry it is!  In my opinion there is nothing more authentic than the result of ones own version.  I'm sure Kru will appreciate the veg-friendly factor and it looks like there ll be lots of carnivore selections already.

  • silverwhisper said on Jun 14, 2008....
    my pleasure, kruu! :>

and yeah, i figured there was tons of meat--and the sad truth is, i'm not that good at cooking meat, anyway so if i'm gonna make something for people and i actually want them to enjoy it... :D

Kru......Lets make it a selection of rums!  If I ever have a hard drink rum is my choice.  LOL @ swoon practice.  As I always say...."The swooner the better!"

Uni!  Cyber travel is doing it for all of us I think.  Angel cake!  Heavenly idea!  Ever tried angel cake toasted on the bbq? .....mmmmmm  good!

Zayda.....I was just reading a recipe for Cucumber Yogurt Sauce...how coincidental!  I'm looking forward to leaning.

Uni.....as noted above, I 've got a huge strawberry patch and I might even be able to whip up my version of creme fraiche (low cal and high taste!)

  • soaringraven said on Jun 14, 2008....

This sounds like great fun.  I debating between picking up a few buckets of wings from The Anchor Bar and Grille in buffalo on my way through or picking up a young pig to put on a spit over a slow fire.  Do you have a suitable location for a fire pit?

And tell our grandson to hang in there, I'll be along shortly.

  • botoni said on Jun 14, 2008....
Soaring!.....Welcome abourd.  Wings sound excellent.  On the other hand a suckling pig over the spit would be superb.  I've a gas BBQ that will accomodate a pig but if you prefer a fire pit we can rig one in very short order.  I'm sure the young 'un will be happy to know you're on the way.

Ginger....You were indeed at the first one.  That time you brought antipasto and tiramisu.  It was wonderful and I'm looking forward to it again.  I'm so glad Kruu is bringing the pirates.  I've a feeling they ll keep things lively once we pour a bit of rum in them.

botoni old friend, I missed the last one and was about to miss this one as well.  I'm returning to my tech-free world in the morning and I have no idea when I will next be on-line.  But I can take this little virtual sidetrip to Alberta.  I'll bring along a couple bottles of Grappa Moralo Moscato for after dinner.  Who knows, one of these days I just may make the real trip to western Canada.  I've often considered a trip to Edmonton.  I'll likely be on foot though, so it will take a while to get there.

  • Lucytorial said on Jun 14, 2008....
Okay Botoni, vindaloo is the hottest curry you can get so I will make my raita as well for you.  I was going to do my Pho Bo (vietnamese beef soup) and maybe my chocolate flourless cake. Keep everyone well fed but I warn you if I have too much to drink you might need to tie me to a chair cause mom knows what I'm like, ohh wombat too, she can't handle her drinks either.
  • woman said on Jun 14, 2008....
Just read this, looking for permission to attend and I can NOT find my name. What do I need to bring to be invited??
  • botoni said on Jun 14, 2008....

Hey Whiz!  I'm thrilled you made this one.  Grappa is wonderful stuff IMO.  Yikes!  A tech-free world.  How does one survive?  If you do happen to make it to Alberta in real time by all means let me know.  I;d love to show you the wonders of Calgary.  If you're travelling by foot it may take awhile.

Lucy!  I'll still sample your vindaloo.  (I once had to apologize to a friend who made a curry for me.  It was so sad that the silverware disintigrated in it.)  Pho Bo is a huge favorite of mine but I'll just bet your version is superior to anything I've ever tasted.  I'm checking the house for the most tie-to-able chair for you.  Mom and Wombie may have to share it with you.

Woman.....You are definately invited.  Bring anything that inspires you.  I' m looking forward to meeting you and enjoying your company.

  • mom said on Jun 14, 2008....
Bot- yes my taters and green jello are for slinging.  Also silly string, and my husband can't come.  He will just ruin my time, so no husband.
  • Lucytorial said on Jun 14, 2008....
Well if its for slinging I'll just spike moms drink, get wombie drunk and passed out in the garden and do cartwheels all over the back yard for your neighbors entertainment, I'm great fun to have a parties... >:)
  • botoni said on Jun 14, 2008....

Mom - If he's gonna ruin the fun leave him at home.  If you get to carried away with the taters and jello I may have to nail the jello to a tree for the protection of the rest of the guests.

Lucy.....I'm sure the neighbors will be delighted with the cartwheels.  My dogs will lick Wombie to consiousness and spiking moms drink takes a pretty fair amount.  Shall I bring in some Alcool?

  • rightwingwizard said on Jun 14, 2008....

Oh yeah, I figure I would have to allow a full four months to get there on foot, by then I might be a little tired and may have to sit a spell.  I would likely enter Canada at Niagara Falls and make my way west, north of the lakes.   I've taken the southern route (by car of course) many times as far as North Dakota.  Never been able to talk myself into pushing any further west.  It remains my dream to one day just take off and go on a 'walk about' as our aussie friends would say.  Every year I say, next year, next year for sure.

  • mom said on Jun 14, 2008....
bot- I promise to behave, kind of.  But you know you can't nail taters to the trees. Actually I am not a drinker so probably 1/2 a beer will be more than enough. LOL
  • botoni said on Jun 14, 2008....
RWW.....We'll be awaiting you.  The route from Niagara Falls west is a bit cumbersome on the Canadian side.  You'll see forest and lakes all through Ontario but then you get to Manitoba, Saskatchewan and most of Alberta and the land is so level you could watch your dog runaway from home for days without ever loosing sight of him.
  • rightwingwizard said on Jun 14, 2008....

Flat I can deal with, especially at my age.  Hills are fine when you're twenty something.   I like your description though and speaking of dog, that is one thing holding me back.  The care and feeding of a dog can become difficult on the road I think.

I went tech free at the end of March , so its been about three months now.   I got rid of everything high tech.  The most high tech I get these days is the radio.  I have just spent a few days at a friend's home about two hundred miles away from my place, that's the only reason I on here at all.

I knew eastern Alberta is rather flat, I guess I never thought much about Manitoba & Saskatchewan.    I made the trip from Sault Ste Marie to Niagara Falls about forty years ago.  I rather enjoyed that trip.

  • botoni said on Jun 14, 2008....
RWW......The Soo to Niagara contains some of Canadas most beautiful scenery.  Manitoba still has lakes and some trees but most of the southern portion (most travelled) parts of Saskatchewan and Alberta are flat barren stretches of plains.  Dont get me wrong though there are beautiful things to see along the way as well.  There is nothing like a clear nighttime sky creating a canopy of shimmering stars with the moonlight tossing shadows while the coyotes sing in the background with the owls hooting and the crickets harmonizing.
  • crybabylu said on Jun 14, 2008....
I read thru these kind of fast, so I hope nobody said deviled eggs, cuz that is what i am bringing, now I saw where moon was suggesting; butter-fried great red ants' eggs for dessert.", but that is no where the same thing, so I got dibbies on bring the deviled eggs, they are my specialty....yum...yum!

Well, this will be my last comment on this thread as I leave first thing in the morning to return to my self imposed exile.  This has been great fun, I think I have come much closer to making the move to go on my 'walk about'.  Just me, my pack and perhaps a laptop to record my journeys.  It won't happen this year of course, but I'm thinking maybe next spring.

Botoni my friend, thanks for everything.

Daily....The 18 foot fence around my yard that was built to keep us in also works to keep the paparazzi out.  With Ginger coming we may have to fortify a bit more.  I understand green jello and tater flinging is something those camera folks cant handle so we'll just have to have a huge stock.

botoni:  I just got that comment about under the covers....ha!  (In response to my traveling under cover of night)

I will be at the head of the line to meet Queen--cause she is bringing spring rolls and some of that halo halo and mango float she posted before....those are the scrumptious desserts I think I saw pics of awhile back...

and what drops on the floor from anyone's plate is mine!  Ha......

in wombie mode for picnics, parties and general mayhem...)

Wombie.....Halo Halo is an absolutely incredible treat.  I'd forgotten that Queen posted those pics.  They made my mouth water so much I was drooling on my keyboard.  You might be a touch late for the tidbits that drop to the floor.  My two little fuzzy vaccuums are pretty rapid at catching all that gets anywhere near their grabbing distance.

Then I assume I will be fighting for scraps with two cats?  Move back everyone!  I may be slow, but I am determined.....ha...
  • botoni said on Jun 16, 2008....
LOL - Wombie.  My 'cats' are Shi Tzu.....known as the Chinese palace dogs.  They are S&M dogs.  (S&M = stand and model).
  • wombat said on Jun 16, 2008....
Thanks for the warning!  I will scurry around under someone else's plates....I know when I am defeated.....
  • botoni said on Jun 16, 2008....
Not to worry Wombie.  If they catch you they'll just lick you to death.
  • wombat said on Jun 16, 2008....

Don't let them mess up my groove....or my hat.  I'll just sit back and watch the party after I have foraged enough for the afternoon....

I hate being cut off--so yea, secretlife, keep the margarittas coming!

  • botoni said on Jun 16, 2008....
I'm rushing out for more supplies for Secret.....She got drunk dry.
  • wombat said on Jun 16, 2008....

I need one of those margarittas---hurry back!  Do you see a glass in my paw?

(Oh, I see I dropped my glass on the ground....let your S&M palace thugs have that.  I am not budging!   If I move, I will fall over)

I am thoroughly disgusted with myself. God above, why do I do this?...
We have had bunches of posts on food, but have we ever talked about...
On Friday i was working at the salon kinda late. Phil was waiting for me at the bar because weve started car pooling to work together. Lucky shit had to wait at the bar across the alley from the salon for 4 hrs, there just wasnt any way around it : P.....
I'm a hotel chef at the mo. Nothing special, just your usual pretencious crap - huge white plates with a tiny amount of food in the middle being overpriced. And on Satuday we had a wedding, where the guests were paying £2,625 for the food....
So, Iceiss and I are contemplating going back vegetarian.

Can I do without my turkey sandwiches? My fish? I don't know...

I do know that my body is just not meant to be vegetarian. My dancing went down, by GI t...
