If you believe the story in the Bible on "creation", then you will understand when I say that I believe that after man chose to go his own way and do his own thing, and be his own "God", shame came into the picture, along with mortality, physical toil, and the pains of childbirth.
Some of my thinking here is from a free book I got on the internet titled, "Shame"...If you will look to the top of this post, you can click on the link that tells you where you can get free books on this subject.
Now, back to the subject of 'shame'. In the Bible, shame is intrinsically connected with self-consciousness of one's body and awareness of wrongdoing. Once they had disobeyed God, Adam and Eve became ashamed of their nakedness and took cover.
I have personally been troubled by 'shame' my whole life. My personal shame suggests that it is a fear of appearing other than one might like to in the eyes of others, mortal or divine.
I never let myself be naked, if I could, I would shower with clothes on. That is how deep I feel shame. I am lucky to have an understanding man in my life who is helping me overcome the 'shame factor'.
