Plus there is a secret about Kyle that I know and that prompted me to invite him over. He makes awesome potato salad. He says he can't cook worth a shit (and this is mostly true) But the potato salad? Well the cooking Force is strong with him when it comes to that.
So I mostly just wanted him to come over and make it, if I bought everything and promised him and Natty dinner.
I'm always wondering what exactly he does to make this masterpiece. So I watched him. I would say I helped, but really all I did was stand there and stare at him while drinking a beer.
Harper wanted to watch too though. Seeing actual food prepared in our kitchen is a rarity since my wife doesn't like to cook. So she's always really excited when someone is actually doing this.
She wouldn't be my daughter if she didn't say something funny though. That's why I'm writing this. Because this cracked me up.
Kyle started chopping onions and she asked him if they made him cry. They were green onions, so they don't really have that effect on your eyes, so he said no.
Then she told him that she never cries when people cut onions either. Kyle said she must be pretty tough then if onions never make her cry. She shrugged and said:
Nah, I just don't care about onions. Why would I cry if I was cutting them?
[dies laughing]
She thinks people cry cutting onions because they're sad about the death of the onion!
Where does she get this stuff? Every day she makes me laugh. But it was even funnier when Kyle (ever the goofball) started pretending to cry over the onions.
He was fake weeping and saying:
Oh no! My beautiful onion! I barely knew you, and now you're gone! What will I do without your oniony love?
He's pretty fucking funny too. Harper was giggling her little head off.
Today felt like it was going to be kind of a crap day for me. No particular reason. It just was. But it ended up being a good one. It's amazing how a little laughter can brighten your day.
