So instead of a little fiction, I think I'll post some fact.

Recently I've been looking at the craigslist personals. I got the idea through another sex blog - they said that they were so horny and hadn't been laid in a while, and they were almost desperate enough to make a craigslist ad to find sex. Well, since I haven't gotten much action either, I thought why not. Taking a peek can't hurt.

So over the last two weeks I've been reading and responding to ads, and I've even posted a few of my own. So far, I haven't had any luck. At first I replied to almost no ads. I read a lot, and didn't see many that I thought I would be compatible with. There were certainly plenty of them, but I was afraid of meeting someone online. I did get a few responses, but none of them lead anywhere.

After a few days, and responding to some ads, I got more comfortable with the whole situation. I started replying to more and more ads, with basically the exact same text. I would copy what I had written to one person, maybe add a little to make it specific to them, and I'd send it out. I did that for a few days, and found that I got even fewer responses. I had answered almost 200 ads and had heard back from maybe two people. Well, a good portion of those ads were spam, so it wasn't that people weren't interested in me, it was more like I wasn't responding to the right ads.

After you watch craigslist for a week or so, the spam postings start to stick out like a sore thumb. If I've seen the exact same ad before, if it is written in all caps, if there is no age attached to it, then it is probably spam. There is a search function, so once I figured out how to search in a way to avoid most of the spam, and simply not click on the other ads, I started to see more real people.

I've responded to a few ads since. They've only been to people I think I have a real connection with and who I would actually like to spend time around. I've heard back from a few people, but I still haven't had any luck. If anything does happen, I'll be sure to post in detail.
