"The book is about discovreing the oft-overlooked richness of everyday life by practicing gratitude."
You actually have to "practice" by writing down, daily, the things you are grateful for.
I kept a journal for the better part of a year. Each night I would reflect back over the day and come up with something to be thankful for. It's kind of a positive thinking exercise. Everyone has something to be grateful for in each day. The trick is to recognize this.
Even after I stopped keeping my journal, I found I'd still think about my blessings each night before I went to sleep. I guess it became a habit.
Anyway, today, as I was driving home from taking my sister to the neuro-chemo doctor, I was composing my list:
I am grateful that my sister's cat scan was clean, and that she has 3 months
until the next one to enjoy life and forget about brain cancer.
I am grateful that my mother is still vibrant and strong at 81.
I am grateful my children are healthy. I cannot say that loud enough. I'm
thankful that they are beautiful and intelligent and loving despite my many shortcomings.
I'm grateful that both my husband and I are employed and can provide for our family.
I'm grateful for the past 2 weeks of beautiful cool mornings and evenings. And the amazing sunshine in between.
