Wasn't it me that was complaining about the cold not long ago?

It's 90 F here today and it's very humid.  I thought I could tough it out for a while before turning on the air conditioning.  I can take the heat, but the humidity is wilting me.  There is no breeze and the ceiling fans aren't keep up.

I'm melting.

My allergies are getting stirred up with the cotton wood trees shedding a bit.  The guy across the road is stirring up his dirt and that definitely doesn't help my tender throat.

I surrender.

I've asked my husband to put the air conditioner back in the window.  We had such a big fight when he took it out.  Maybe I will just close my eyes and go outside and play with the kitties while he does everything exactly backwards to my way of thinking.  We definitely don't share the same logic where this is concerned.  I'll step out of the way and let him do it how he wants to.  If I'm lucky, I'll keep all my blood sugar down that way.

I hate being robbed by the electric company, but I hate seeing my books and paperwork curling up and getting ruined due to the humidity a little more.

Maybe I'll have a/c in an hour or two.

Do you have your air conditioning turned on yet?

We don't have our air conditioning turned on yet. We are actually trying to hold off for awhile, and so far, just the ceiling fans have been enough for us. We'll have to see how it goes though.

We don't have our air conditioners back in the windows yet--and will hold off as long as we can.  Our ceiling fans and fans in the windows have been ok so far.  I can deal with it until I try to curl my hair after washing it, and it is so hot and humid nothing works.  Then it's time for the air co-ditey, as we used to call it.  Hope you find a way to stay cool,  and to keep your cool, also!

We've had our AC on for a good while now. The apartment is always at least ten to fifteen degrees warmer inside than out if we don't, and when it's 96 and 60% humidity, well, I'm no martyr. :-p

    Zayda,
I had the same plan, but I couldn't last.  My whole side of the family wilts in the heat.  I did manage to outlast my mom and sister.  That's a little victory, I guess.  :-)

    wombat,
The house is cooling down now and I managed to keep my cool.  I went into the bedroom and put away laundry.

I tried to use a straightening iron on my hair today in a humid house.  That was a trip.  :-)

    Infernal,
I am sure I would have done the same.  I lived in an apartment years ago and it was very hot too.  Stay cool.  :-)

We haven't put ours in yet either and we're hoping not to have to.  It doesn't seem to be as hot this year as last year, and where we live there's always a bit of breeze.  Our apartment is poorly designed and it's almost impossible to get air circulating.  So with some scientific fan placement we're managing to stay tolerably cool so far!  This time last year we already had the A/C in, so our plan seems to be working.

If we can get by without it that will be a bonus.  We don't have the right kind of windows for an A/C so it's a major hassle to get in and out (we literally prop it up with cans of beans on one side and a metal cash box on the other!) and it's noisy and expensive and still doesn't keep things all that cool if it's really hot (poor circulation again).

I have always hated the humidity. Now I blame the diabetes but that really isn't the whole thing. My air is on and has been. Whenever I feel the need, I will turn it on. I tell myself that I would not hesitate to turn the heat on when I was freezing so, what's the difference. The electric is expensive but what isn't? I hope you feel better soon. Have a diet coke and sit in the coolness...

I just looked, and the weather forecast for the rest of the week is 100+.

    [groan]

This electricity bill is going to suck...but I don't regret the AC at all! (Plus, I always just tell DH "Well, little one/linebacker looked warm, so I turned it down a little" and he can't argue with that ;-))

We had to use it once, over the weekend, I think.  I'm trying to hold out again; my husband will probably cave before I do.

That is going to be one of our first big purchases as we move to the new house. Especially for my office an ac will be essential. I can't have my expensive photo art books going all wavey and yellow along the edges of the pages. And my slide files need to be kept mould free!

It started to get hot here the other week but now the rainy season has begun. That means a few weeks of mostly damp days followed by sweltering heart and humidity that will make your pores stay open all day and all night. You become a human shower the way the water just spurts from your body. Blech!

So, yeah, an ac or two will be essential. And the electric fan will also get lots of exercise!
  • Twylarants said on Jun 04, 2008....
We've been using ours at night for more than a month because the humidity goes up at night even if the temp is in the 60s. This whole week will be high 80s, low 90s.
    Ugh.
  • MissMimi said on Jun 04, 2008....
Humidity is the work of Satan.  It's supposed to be in the nineties for the next few days.  So the AC is on.  My husband would just sit and swelter, but not me.  I don't just need AC -- I need refrigeration.  :)
  • Wish_Upon_A_Star said on Jun 04, 2008....
We've had to turn ours on a bit for about two months now, we hit a heat wave of high 90's low 100's in april,  and then spent most of may sweltering as well. With a few freezing days and nights to throw us off...

I agree with you CreativeWoman, I can deal with the heat but the humidity can take it's toll on me. Some days when I walk outside it actually seems like I'm cutting my own path thru it. I have central air and it is always ready. I can control the areas of the house the air flows to but with cathedral ceilings it can be costly. I think the power company loves me. I seriously believe Al Gore could'nt care less.
  • quietone said on Jun 05, 2008....
It is supposed to get into the 90s here this weekend with humidity too.  I don't like it at all.  I have an AC but I don't put it in.. I just keep my house closed up during the day and it keeps it fairly cool.. well at least cooler than outside.  ugh, those cottonwood trees are awful.. it is the only thing that has ever bothered me when I lived out in WA.. it was like breathing in insulation.  Keep Cool CW

Ugh it was hot and humid today, making me wish that we had put the air conditioners in. It's supposed to begin cooling off tomorrow night. But I think we will have to break down soon and put those air conditioners in.
  • CreativeWoman said on Jun 06, 2008....
    nytquill,
I hope it stays cool enough that you can do that.  (Crossing fingers for you.)

    woman,
I blame it some on the diabetes too.  My numbers go up if I'm either too hot or too cold.  I hate that, but it seems to be the case.  I think I need to move to nice warm tropical climate and be done with it.  :-D

    Infernal,
Who couldn't argue with that reasoning?  :-)  That's definitely wilting weather.

    Eilan,
I can keep the a/c temp just high enough to kick on once in a while to take the humidity out of the air.  The ceiling fans do a pretty good job of circulating the air if people aren't running in and out.  I hope you can keep yours off as long as you want to.

    hotaka,
I can see why you need the humidity out of the air.  You have a lot of love and talent invested in your photography.  :-)

    Twyla,
I need the humidity out of the air to sleep too.  I completely understand.

    Mimi,
You absolutely crack me up!  :-D  I wish we could save some of this heat and humidity for winter.  Maybe we should send a memo to Jack Frost.

    wish,
Sounds like Mother Nature has been busy in your area.  I hope you stay comfortable.

    Cayenne,
Cathedral Ceilings AND a big yard?  I would like to see a picture of this big rolling estate someday.  :=)   That type of architecture is beautiful though.  I hope you stay cool.

    quietone,
You are tougher than me.  :-)   Do you have ceiling fans?

    ocean,
I really am a weather wimp.  :-)  Cool but not cold sounds really nice now though.

    skald,
Your weather sounds about right for me.  :-)

    cry,
Wednesday night my weather radio was sounding with warnings all night long.  Thursday we had a tornado warning, but it settled down after that system moved through.

    Zayda,
You are another one that is tougher than I am.  :-)  I can take the heat better if I am outside and there is a breeze.  A hot house cooks me though.

I'm getting a late start but I saw your request. I am not to good at posting pictures or you would think I was rich or something so I try to post as little as possible. Off to the left they are working. I don't want these people to feel like I'm checking on their progress.

Wow!  What a beautiful home and property you have Cayenne.  I was only teasing about the photo, but thank you so much for posting it.  You keep it looking so nice.  I understand about what you mean about all that mowing now.  :-)

Well, I think we are putting ours in tomorrow. Unfortunately, they didn't get put in yesterday and it was in the 90s today with 93% humidity. I just about died. The little man and I spent most of the day out of the house at the bowling ally and in stores but when we came home, it was terrible. A storm front blew through, but the weather is supposed to be the same tomorrow, so the hubby is charged with putting the air conditioner in.
  • CreativeWoman said on Jun 07, 2008....
    Zayda,
The humidity has struck with a vengeance here too.  Yesterday, the a/c didn't run much.  Today it kicked on about 6:45 a.m. and has been running at regular intervals ever since. I am sure you will be glad when your hubby gets yours going.  Try to stay cool until then.

CW, after I posted my previous comment, our air conditioning decided to go on the fritz.  I think something happened to it during the recent thunderstorms, and of course, it's the weekend, so we'll have to slog through until my husband can call someone on Monday.  The worst of it is that my oldest daugters have the upstairs bedroom and it's very hot up there.  At least they have a couple of fans to move the air around.
  • CreativeWoman said on Jun 07, 2008....
    Eilan,
That's the pits.  I hope it's fairly bearable  until you can get it fixed.

The A/C seems to be working now, though it's not as cold as it might be.  Weird.  Probably still needs to be looked at.

My husband found an old window A/C unit in the garage.  To his surprise, it still works, so he put in our family room window (our family room is upstairs, along with the oldest girls' bedroom).  That way the girls will be comfy, and we won't have to turn the the central air down just to cool the upper floor.

    Eilan,
It sounds like your hubby is the hero of the day.  :-)  I'm glad that everything is cooling down.
