Actorgal (hehe) is in hospital today undergoing surgery.  She has a hernia in her abdomen, in fact this is about the fifth one she's had.  After the last one, about a year ago, they said they had solved the problem for good and she would never have to worry about another hernia.  Two months later, it's back.  It's been about three years that she has been in constant pain, and unable to lift more than 20 pounds. With these restrictions it has been impossible to find full-time work and finances have been rather desperate.  I hope and pray that this will be over today, and she can get back to her old life.

So if you have a moment today, please remember her in your thoughts and prayers. I will try and keep you posted.

I really had to look up what the word hernia means. We don't have international words and our words are usually so transparent that they say the thing. This word by us says something about torn abdomen muscles in our word.  Well I got the meaning of the word and this is a very delicate condition that often happens again. I do hope she will be OK and this will not happen again. Best wishes. .

I think your prayers and well-wishes really helped.  I have just gotten home from the hospital and apparently the surgery went very well.  They were able to use the smaller surgery..... laperoscopy or something like that?..... so that means her recovery time should be a lot quicker.  Thank you all for your happy thoughts.

skald: as I understand it, your abdomen is made up of bundles of muscle fibres, like cables, that are held together with a sheath of tissue.  This sheath gets a tear in it and your insides poke out through the hole.  It hurts like a son-of-a-gun, and over time the tear gets bigger and bigger.  You can get them in your stomach (where hers is), in your groin (ouch!) or in your belly-button!  I had one in my belly-button years ago, and they are no fun at all!

If it's not too late (time zone difference here) I hope everything works out and that she finally can lead a life free of the H word. And I don't mean hemorrhoids. Though I hope she doesn't have them either.

fearing: I didn't see the doctor, and my wife is still pretty groggy, but they told her it went well.

    infernal:  me too!

ginger: she's not home yet, but hopefully by the weekend,  Thanks hun.

mom:  She said she is so glad she didn't have to have the colonoscopy this time.  I'm sure you can appreciate that!

destiny:  Oh boy, I hope so too.  Thanks for the good thoughts, des :-)

    scipio:  Thanks for the prayers!

is she home yet and how is she feeling?
  • silverwhisper said on Jun 06, 2008....
actorguy, i'm sorry i didn't see this before. i'm glad the surgery went well but i can feel your frustration at how the doctors were wrong two months ago. if they did a laparoscopic procedure she should be released relatively soon, i would think, unless they wanna observe her.

    please keep us updated?

Sorry guys, it's been a crazy few days.  It turns out she did not have a hernia, she had SIX hernias.  That's right six!  I have never even heard of this before!  I can only think that they must have screwed something up last year and weakened the abdominal wall with the incision or something.

Anyway, they say the laparascopic (thanks for the spelling, silver) went well but they had to make nine holes instead of the usual three or four.  She's still in the hospital and will probably be there through the weekend, but she was up walking a bit yesterday.  She says she's still sore but not near as bad as last time.

Between C-sections, gall bladder and hernias, the poor girl has had more surgery than anyone I know!  Hopefully, this recovery period will be short and she'll be back to her old self soon.  Domestic life is pretty chaotic without her here :-)

  • destinydiva said on Jun 06, 2008....
wow!!  hope she makes a speedy recovery and hope your doing well coping alone  :-) xx
  • Actorguy said on Jun 06, 2008....
Thanks Des.  I'm not alone though, my 17YO daughter is still at home.  Unfortunately, neither one of us does domestic very well.  You wouldn't want to stop over and do some dishes would ya? hehehe.
  • Twylarants said on Jun 06, 2008....
Poor Actorgal! 6 hernias...jeez. My mother had one and was in pain for years... I can't imagine having 6.
I hope her recovery goes smoothly and she's back on her feet soon!
