  I typed a post some time back about a little girl I saw on the train with half a normal cute face and half a mutilated face. My feelings were similar to what you expressed here. If I try to think of why some people have so much misfortune or why God would permit such a thing it only makes me sad and angry. Life is cruel to some, kind to others. The only way I can deal with the frustration is by forgetting about God and what He might be thinking and forgetting about fairness and look at the pigeons at the train stations. Most are healthy normal birds but some have club feet or missing feet or feet white large white growths. They might try to attract a mate but they are surely rejected.
  
  Nature isn't perfect and disease plays no favourites. Whatever we might think of as being fair plays no part at the cellular level. Nature is cold in that way. Genetics is nothing more than computer transcriptions and transcription errors occur. Bacteria and viruses have their parts to play regardless of how we feel. It is heart breaking for us human beings but many times there is little we can do about it. Perhaps someday in the not too distant future. Nanotechnology may hold the answers I have read. Until then we must somehow deal with the heart-wrenching tragedies of life.
