I just watched "P.S. I love you" this weekend with Hilary Swank, Gerard Butler, and Kathy Bates.
Yes, guys, it is a chick flick a girly movie.. so what!! LOL  I rank it right up there close to "The Notebook".  Not as great, but almost, I'd give it at least an 8
So, if any of you girls out there want to see a good tear jerking moive, a tissue tossing event, rent it..   I bet you shed at least one tear !!
I think someone else did a post on this movie a while back I think, but I couldn't find it.

I've never seen it, but I'm always looking for a good kleenex movie.  :)

The end of Steel Magnolias used to make me cry.  I mean, sobbing and everything.  Movies that make you cry are just so satisfying, for some reason.

Yes, quiet ...I remember destiny´s post about it :).

I googled it then, and found the info about the film very endearing.  Ermmm, not only because I have always been wild over Gerard Butler!!! :D

I read the book, years ago.  Here is hoping, I will remember to borrow it from the library for the summer vacation, and read it at the beach when we visit Holland.

And I will tell P to borrow/buy the DVD, we could then watch it together on a huge projection screen he has at his home (a huge image of Gerard woweee); I love it, that he shares the love for chick flicks with me (he will tolerate Gerard, lol)!!!  I am sure he will like this film.

    - edit -

I wanted to link destiny´s post about it...but : ( it is not there anymore...oh well, either there goes my photographic memory or it has been put to draft mode or deleted entirely...

I agree MissyMims!  Now, that I am a mom, my tears flow more frequently when touched by a film.  I don´t know if you watched Fly Away, about a flock of geese left without guidance and a girl whose mom died in a car accident, adopted them and taught them how to "fly" south for the fall season.

The girls have watched that over and over again, and I cry over and over again each time.

mimi ~ I don't know what it is about these tear jerker films either.. they seem to suck us right in!  I think you'd like it.

Paper ~ oh, you have such a sweetie in pete to share these wonderful movies with.. ah, on a big screen at that!  I didn't know about the book.  That is how much I read!  I didn't know about Gerard either til this movie... now it makes me want to visit Ireland.. really bad!  maybe that will  be my next years trip.
  • PAPERBACKWRITER said on Jun 01, 2008....

Oooh, quiet p was lucky, he got the screen for free through his job!  Double lucky because he loves watching films a lot.

The last time we visited him (a one week school vacation, last month), the girls enjoyed watching Narnia on that screen.

Oh, and I came upon the book (by Cecelia Ahern)  because I love Ireland and dream of living there.  My brother and his wife lives there now!  Tell me when, and I can hook you up with him, he loves having guests (this is not an empty offer!)!!!  Their home is always filled with friends.

Oh, oh, oh.  Maybe we could coordinate our visit because I don´t think I could make it this year (...again! Been meaning to for 2 years now!).  So, perhaps next year too :) .  Wouldn´t that be great???

Oh thanks quietone!! I was waiting for someone to tell me how it was.. I've been wanting to watch it ever since the first promos but the reviews weren't that good.. thanks! I'll watch it now! I'm chick flick girl all the way!!  :-)
  • quietone said on Jun 01, 2008....
paper ~ I have watched fly away home too.  I liked it a lot.  I also liked Narnia too.  I bet the kids just loved watching that on the big screen!!  Yes, that would be awesome if we could hook up there in Ireland. I have always wanted to vist that part of the world.  It would be next year or there after if I planned, as I have a pending trip coming up the end of this month.
  • quietone said on Jun 01, 2008....

Quiet, I really enjoyed the movie too. . .it certainly brought tears to my eyes.  A very endearing movie.  I liked Hillary Swank in Million Dollar Baby too - did you see it?

I highly recommend "The Pursuit of Happyness" too - that really touched me deeply.

    Lots of love
    Polar
  • quietone said on Jun 01, 2008....
    polar ~ yes I saw The Persuit of Happiness , it was a great movie.  I like Will Smith anyway, and this was a good role he played. I haven't seen the other one though.  {{{hugs}}

I have bought a DVD of P.S. but I cant seem to watch it. Its just sitting there, waiting to be watched. I knew this movie is a tear-jerker that deals about death. I just can't watch something of this sort, not right now. Maybe too much for me to handle.

Pursuit of Happyness was good, I thought his son was cute. Watched it with big crying spell. There is something about fathers and father role that gets my tearduct working.

Quiet........i watched it last week because my daughter wanted to see it....i have to say.....they were trying very hard to make me cry...so naturally they didn't succeed with me but my daughter was in tears.....

She said it was the best movie she has ever seen...oh, she is 12....
I think i have a chick movie aficionada in the house now...lol..

Sappy for sappy......i still prefer The Notebook , The way we were,  Terms of endearment, Moonstruck....that contains one of the best love quotes ever:

"Everything seems like nothing to me now, 'cause I want you in my bed. I don't care if I burn in hell. I don't care if you burn in hell. The past and the future is a joke to me now. I see that they're nothing. I see they ain't here. The only thing that's here is you - and me." .

And City of Angels.....with this quote....

"I would rather have had one breath of her hair, one kiss from her mouth, one touch of her hand, than eternity without it. One."

    Yeah, sappy is good!....lol......
  • quietone said on Jun 02, 2008....

ginger ~ LOL yes sappy.. well, that means we have some emotions within us then anyway.. and your daughter too!  How 'bout this quote: "So what do you want Vivian?"  "I want the fairy tail Edward".  Or.. just for laughs... "You make me want to be a better man".. and of course the other one.. "you had me at hello"  ha.. yup a list there is!  Yes, I cried with city of angels too.. well teared up a bit anyway.  Terms Of Endearment.. yes thanks ginger! Now I can go take a nap and dream nice dreams ~

  • quietone said on Jun 02, 2008....

The book is better, it is by Cecilia Ahearn.
  • quietone said on Jun 02, 2008....
fromtheheart ~ I think for the most part, books usually are better, but unfortunately I don't like to read that much... but I love movies ~
  • fromtheheart said on Jun 02, 2008....
yah in all parts.... when we read we are imagining what we are reading.... we sometimes put ourselves on the characters... but our imagination is limitless so when we watched the movies.... it's kindda disappointing.... but i agree with you that it is such a lovely movie.... makes me want to believe in love again
  • quietone said on Jun 02, 2008....
fromtheheart ~ yes, me too... I even now want to visit Ireland more than I did before too!  LOL  Yes imagination is wonderful in books.. I was disappointed in "IT" when I read the book, very good, but the movies ending was disappointing.. it wasn't what my imagination had created.
