Now I wonder as to just how far we will go here at SoulCast? I know we have freedom of speech, worship, expression etc, but what about the illegal stuff?

I have just seen a post with a whole list of Serial numbers to be used to activate pirated softwares and applications. Next we may have links to warez sites, then kiddie porn, MP3s, movie downloads etc thereby putting SoulCast at the risk of being shut down.

To what level are we going to push this freedom thingy while putting the existence of the whole SC community on the line?

Even though I posted my wish list on that blog, I do agree with you... But this site is pretty much free, we have blogs on sex also, even though I dont have a clue, what is actually there in them... So lets put it this way, check how clean the site is before you can put any censorship.... Adious S
• GMNIMan said on Aug 12, 2006....
I am not so much about talking about censorship here. And I definitely would not want to shut a person up, ban or block him/her just because of differences of opinion. Neither am I about to start a debate on the ethics of illegal useage of copyrighted materials. "Let he who has never sinned cast the first stone!" However I am very concern about the continuing existence of SoulCast as a blogging site for us all. Bear in mind that SoulCast is affiliated to Google, and one of the TOS of Google is very strong against piracy of any kind. I do believe that many of us here are actually using pirated software. That's fine by me, but let's not make it seem that SoulCast is promoting such usage.

GMNIMan, as some one in software I am telling you this fact that most of this stuff you can get if you know what to type in the google search box... I have downloaded books (books like Harry Potter, and lots of more) when anti-priracy was at its high... I have downloaded keys... I am telling this google itself provides a lot of stuff by its own search engine... they are not able to filter properly. Adious S

Yup. I know that too. I have been in computers for more than 25 years, from when the Apple II was the hot item of the day, and the "other computer" was an IBM PC with IBM DOS, and if you mentioned Microsoft, everyone would respond "Mike who?" I use bittorrent, ed2k, Limewire. I rip, encode, crack and hack. I have been programming assembly language and C from when C was just plain "C". So I am a technogeek and do all that. For that matter I can even help you with your Nero. Anyway I see your point! However let me rephrase my question to... "Will Soulcast get banned if we all start posting our collection of Pirated softwares, movies, MP3s and what not to share with everyone here?" What do you think?
• narbeha1983 said on Aug 12, 2006....
I do believe so. I doubt it wants to be affiliated with those file sharing programs. Never hurts to ask though. Anyone know for sure?
• Weird_World said on Aug 12, 2006....
Hey thanks a lot, I have a lot of things which are totally driving me crazy these days... And I have just got into comps... I did a bit of hacking back in college, when my mail-id started getting hacked daily, and I got irritated like hell... And I love C (and I mean plain "C"), heck its actually my first and only love... Please do help me with nero... But I want to know this... I had something in FAT, and I multisession the disc with Nero 5(the previous verison I dont remember)... So the disc was multisessioned and the file-system changed to CDFS... And I lost all my old data.. So using my common-sense I have thought that the only way to retrieve the data(if any way) is to multisession again with FAT... So how do I change from CDFS to FAT?? (And I know this might not work...) Thanks, but do help... Adious S P.S.:-No soulcast will get warned for sharing and piracy, and then the whole thing will be done covertly. The whole thing which actually goes around on the net.... Rather the fact on which net works on...
• GMNIMan said on Aug 12, 2006....
Actually I was talking about your Nero SN. Anyway I doubt that you have a very optimistic chance of salvaging that CD. Had it been your HD it would have been no sweat. However I will do some research and toast a few CDs along the way too. I'll get back to you on this.
• Weird_World said on Aug 12, 2006....
GMNIMan, Hey thanks, I know that, very few chances of getting it done, but I just want to try for the last time... If you can get me a Nero SN, thats o.k. also, I will just update my Nero, and then ticker with it, till I get FAT... Yeah I know HD, life's would have been easier... Anyways I got a lot more queries to ask you... I created a file of 1.32Gb, and I dont how to transport it... Anyways doesnt matter, Thanks a lot....(for wanting to help)... Adious S
• GMNIMan said on Aug 12, 2006....
Transport from where to where? I would think copying the file to a DVD is the most convenient. Or you can split it into two smaller files using HJSplit and copy the two parts into two CDs. Rejoin using HJSplit again.
• Weird_World said on Aug 12, 2006....
Dont have a DVD burner... From HD to CD, or something... HJSpilt?? Its a file spliter?? Yeah know how to use them, just the usual WinZip, plus some tech crap, what else... Thanks a lot... Adious S
• Weird_World said on Aug 12, 2006....
And thanks a lot for helping out...
• FrenchlySpeaking said on Aug 12, 2006....
Of course I do believe that almost everyone has used a pirated software at one time or another. What we do in the privacy of our homes is our business. However let's not go to another person's home or to a public place and start promoting anything illegal. Just my opinion.
• GMNIMan said on Aug 12, 2006....
HJSplit is a file spltting and joining program. It's freeware btw so no illegal piracy here ;-) ||{1}||
• Weird_World said on Aug 12, 2006....
I am not that dumb, that I wouldnt have found out by now... Google is good enough... I was just thinking that I will have to carry the HJSPilt's exe with my file, cause it is not exactly very well-known (by my standards)... Thanks a lot... Adious S

Isn't this part of the Soulcast user agreement, where articles promoting the infringement of intellectual properties are prohibited. Dunno if I read it here or from some other site. GMNIMan, a very valid point, abuse of Soulcast site may be detrimental to all of us in the long run. It would definitely be a good idea to be prohibiting the promotion of illegal stuff in here.
• StupidGenius said on Aug 12, 2006....
Come on guys, if you type torrent into google you get the websites that offer them, if you type in download free music you get the same sort of thing. Google recently refused to hand over records of public search criteria to the U.S Governement even though yahoo and other search engins did. The fact is, if it didnt want to be a part of these websites or felt it was promoting them then it would block access to there content. You are all worrying over nothing. Also, Will people start thinking about what they are taging responses with!!! we are ending up with ones like "scum" I do Agree" etc. The tag should be content/subject related. Michael
• GMNIMan said on Aug 12, 2006....
I do believe that just discussing about torrents, ed2k, DVD & CD ripping, software/MP3/movie downloads etc should be perfectly fine, because this does not necessarily mean that you are doing anything illegal. However actually posting links, hash codes, serial numbers, activation codes and cracks should never be allowed. There is of course nothing to prevent indviduals from linking up with each other in order to pursue this activity privately, but that is an entirely different matter altogether.
• GMNIMan said on Aug 12, 2006....
Many of the forums that I participate in are absolutely paranoid about anything illegal being discussed on the forums at the risk having their Ad accounts suspended or their websites shut down. So any posts concerning illegal downloads or pirated software are strictly prohibitted. Anyone caught doing so would have his/her membership terminated immediately. I guess this is only logical since many owners of the popular forums are earning quite a sizeable income from the ads on their sites and losing those ads and not mention their sites frozen can have quite a big impact on their livehood. Wouldn't you do the same if you are forum operator? I surely would!

SC should be clean and remain clean. i believe a lot of members, me included, will leave once our community is not maintained properly and kept free from illegal & other terrible stuff... SC should be vigilant on things that tends to besmirch its good image.

the policy is simple, just like if you go to a banquet and you happen to be a veggiehead, which I am fer real, you are responsible fer what you put inna your piehole. You an' you alone. The fact that the spread on the table ranges from ass of chickens to alligator fillet to tortillas to sushi to tofu shrimp to veggie burgers to grated carrots with diced chicken feet to onion souffle to fettucini alfreado to eggplant with chickpeas to cabbage slathered with cottage cheese to rice and dhal to collards and pigs feet, the fact remains it's all up to you what you put inna that hole under your nostrils. And so it is with going on the net, or coming in here to muckamuck. Or say you go to a party, and the dutchie is passin' pon the lefthand side, well, it's up to you if you toke or just keep it moving. If you one of those keep it moving wankers, then more for the rest of us, dig?

Oh, one more thing. Someone passing around cereal keys. I just want that person to know my fave is that Honey Bunches of Oats series, so do a righteous favor and set me up too. Shit, you know what, I forgot where I put my stash. Ain't that a bitch?
• StupidGenius said on Aug 13, 2006....
Posting links to illegal content is not going to cause problems as yahoo, google, ask etc all do it on their own search engines. Posting actual illegal content is/may cause a problem. Although the serial key post has a a google add right next to it advertising serial keys. I have written a guide on how movies and music is downloaded from the internet for free, but this information is available via google etc anyway plus im not telling you to actually do it, im simply letting peolple know how to. My article is full of adsense adds that take you to sites where you can download for free so I think it is safe to say that google dont have a problem with it. my current count on page views for my article is over 1000 so people obviously like what I posted plus i havnt recieved any negative feedback. Michael

"I have written a guide on how movies and music is downloaded from the internet for free, but this information is available via google etc anyway plus im not telling you to actually do it, im simply letting peolple know how to." McDude, well, alrighty then, don't tell me to do it, but tell me how to link to the place where you 'splain how to do it.
• GMNIMan said on Aug 13, 2006....
Wow! 1000 hits. Now that's mighty tempting, but maybe not on SoulCast
• yeahbutnobut said on Aug 13, 2006....
I had a 1000 hits once, a long time ago. Kept it in my freezer, and when I went upstate NY for a wine festival, my roomate feasted on them. Long story short, when he heard sirens on our block, he thought the cops were coming to our place and he flushed the whole thing down the cosmic U-bend. I made him pay me back for the whole thing, though. Fast forward to the present, would be good to get a 1000 hits on my blogs.
• GMNIMan said on Aug 13, 2006....
The only thousand hits I ever had was when I went into a Cocoa plantation one day. The place was absolutely infested with zillions of mosquitoes. Whup, whup, whack, slap on my backs and arms and whatever exposed real estate I had on me. A thousand hits for sure, and murdered about a million of those buggers that day. Weight 20 kilos less from loss of blood though!
• yeahbutnobut said on Aug 13, 2006....
Mosquitoes!!! Ha, they were getting high on you. They do enjoy a good buzz, you know.
• FaithfulDisciple said on Aug 13, 2006....
At the rate this post is going, this is another landmark hit blog for you GMNIMan. Soon you'll be joining the Top 20 popular member's list of Soulcast, that is if you're still not yet in by now. Blog on bro!
• StupidGenius said on Aug 13, 2006....
yeabunobut, im not sure i understand what your saying, could you rephrase. Its been a long day! ;)
• Expendable said on Aug 13, 2006....
At the rate this place is growing, you can't expect SoulCast to catch everything. If you want this place to stay clean, you're going to have to help them by reporting abuse.

Just read on a magazine that it's not just the illegal stuff tha'ts illegal on a blog (sex, downloading whatever etc...) but (1) it must be possible to identify the author either directly or via the host. An anonymous post is not legal.
(2) As a blog is open to all, so cannot criticise anyone (even if whoever deserves it) It's called Libel or slander, whichever. cant remember. Even if you name that whoever with an alias. In case, he/she complains, a judge may decide that he/she can be identified through the alias.
Dont forget that you are also responsible for all the comments sent to your own blog. Recommendation:to protect yourself, check all commentaries before they are published or delete regularly those comments which are just crossing or about to cross the line.
(3) Not allowed to copy logos, songs, articles unless you have a written authorisation from the author.
(4) cannot publish candid photos without permission. People can complain.
When I say complain, I mean legally. Lawyers and judges involved
• GMNIMan said on Aug 26, 2006....
anon, so by your arguments plagiarizing should be illegal too.
• anonymous said on Aug 27, 2006....
These are not "my" arguments. And I am not saying that it "should", It "IS" illegal. According to the law quoted in that magasine I read......
• anonymous said on Mar 05, 2008....
I think that this is a little OTT... For EU members here, you do not have any worries about companies getting hold of your details for civil cases..  Recently an EU ruling has stated that for civil matters ISP's etc are NOT forced to give your details out..

This covers the copyright material issue for the average user who d/l's films....

A little food for thought....in the UK there are constant advertising campaigns warning about buying counterfiet DVD's.....they say it exploits illegal immigrants and funds international crime gangs....

By that theory we are helping fight crime and exploitation by d/ling pirated movies and not creating a market for the crime gangs.....we should be commended......
