Coping with PTSD-- [ Combat ]
With the annual Memorial Day weekend upon us,
It is a good time to look at PTSD. posttraumatic stress disorder ( PTSD ) occurs after experiencing or witnessing an extremely traumatic, terrifying or tragic event.
Combat PTSD is more common in soldiers who have experienced active military action on the battlefield, than in other military postitions such as mine.
I was in the military, but was not in combat. I also, do not have PTSD, I am only mentioning it because there are those who do.
No one actually knows why some get the disorder and others do not.
I knew some soldiers, personally, who did develop the disorder, but less than a handful, others I read about.
The symptoms varry from terrifying nightmares, that recur, to others who have more problems with flashbacks.
Those who suffer these symptoms are almost always referred to the Veterans Administration for treatment.
It seems to have its lifetime effects on some, and then there are others who after a lengthy treatment regimend, seem to improve to the point that it doesn't bother them with the same magnitude as the onset did.
This Memorial Day Weekend, as we remember our loved ones who have passed, let's also say a prayer for the families who have lost those in the military and those still suffering from the effects of their service.
