I have this officemate whom some treat as "others" meaning not part of the group. We always have parties in the office. Our bosses always find every action to be a cause for celebration, since food is part of a party, this lovely officemate always find ways to save foods for take home. What irritates most of us is that sometimes there is shortage because she had already kept the most.

What aghasts all of us was when we had an office outing last June. We were brought by the bosses to a high-end place where we are allowed to enjoy ourselves. Some play golf, others go fishing, horse riding, play billiards or bowling. (I was able to have mint body spa btw.) The occasion was for "employees only". But this fave officemate brought with her her whole family, 2 young daughters and husband. The husband was into drinking and had a brawl with the securities and one of the daughters almost fall off a clift. The reason why we had the employees only policy is for the whole company to enjoy. Why can't one just go by the rules?

wow that family sounds dysfunctional. the company doesn't want family members to go because it sounds like they're cheap. : )

Well, some go thru life freeloading, but when I was in Manila operating an overseas company, I made sure that was spelt out, and I made the HR manager accountable. Another way is to make staff pay for the "others"... Very effective measure..

Susmaryosep, the management made "others" pay for the expenses of her family. I t was the rule we agreed before the outing. Yankee, it's not that it is cheap. For the company, we just want to avoid problems like last year when family members were included there was this jealousy of a spouse, some employees with young children did not enjoy because they had to attend to their children, etc.

Well, you cannot have the cake and eat it..... If you want 'family' then you have to put up with freeloaders, . This company outing is quite a pilipino thing. If I were the boss there, I would limit the event to staff only....

if you didn't want to attend to the children, you don't bring them, right? : ) i'd make employees pay for their family members although a certain amount of freeloading is natural and almost expected.

You are correct freeloading cannot be avoided, and we do have occassions that include families like christmas parties and family day. There;s just those who wants everything free.

Unfortunately, there will always be people who are not and never will be prepared by the rules.
