43Things is a not-so-new website I recently discovered. You list things you want to do (43 of them, if you're a perfect little 43Thinger) and can mark thins as "I've done this!" People can then "cheer" your goals, and of course you can cheer theirs, and you can discuss your goals. Get advice on how to achieve them or just blog about your attempts. But that's not what I like about it.
What's the most fun is browsing all the things people have listed as goals and checking "I've done this!" to as many as possible. No, I can't check off "Earn a billion dollars", but just being able to check off things like "roast marshmallows" and "build a snowman taller than I am" makes me think I've led a full life. It encourages me to do more things I normally would find pointless and makes me realize the value of little things. While holding a snake or attending the opera may not be as enriching or useful as learning Italian, little things add up and make for an interesting life. We shouldn't need a website to remind us of that.
