Iron Man isn't all that.

Hey, it glorifies a self-centered playboy with too many adult toys.

Then he kicks a bunch of sterotypical middle-eastern bad guys around after climbing inside a Transformers robot. Is there a diaper in that thing?

What does he get in the end? More glory, more fame, more chicks, more toys? Yeah, I'll bet this is big in Iran.

Think Iron Man is tough? I've got a one-word answer for you: Magneto.

Stoney Tark is no hero - he's Hef with heft. Anybody could climb in that suit and push around a bunch of camel jockeys.

I'll admit that it's cool that a multi-million dollar super budgeted film's producers would put their faith in a barely-sober addiction-fighting wild card like Robert Downey, Jr. ...if for no other reason that to see if he can stay clean long enough to do the sequel.

Tony is a great hero, so is Hef.

No actually I'm sane.  Ironman was the best comic movie to come along in some time.  Well other than Batman Begins.

And who cares how this movie is doing in Iran?  PC is bullshit it sucks that Superman o longer stands for Truth, Justice and the American way.

Iron Man is just a typical American adventure story with a big deal hero who does unbelievable things, gets into trouble, ends up beating the bad guy and getting the girl. Some people are into that but it's too predictable and uncreative for me. I'd rather see a movie that has some reality to it. I just saw a much better movie on The Movie Channel on demand. It was Milla Jovovich in .45. That was a pretty good movie, far better for me than stupid Iron Man. It's just a waste of time and money to watch yet another of these formulaic stories. And the whole concept of the bad guy building a bigger suit, oh it was just so stupid. Why did the bad guy go bad? Because he was nuts. How stupid is that? Everything about this movie, every turn of the plot, every character, was just so damn dopy.

Wow a Sundance girl.  Who woulda guessed.  Still atleast lfb has solid reasosn for disliking the movie.   She's wrong as she is on nearly everthing but atleast there is a logic.  I mean I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that you hate hero, action "Guy" flicks all on principle.  Probably most chick flicks too since they aren't any less predictable.  But you loved Butterfly Effect, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and anything by M. Night Shalyaman (save LAdy in the Water)

I'm giving you some measure of respect by saying that you liked AND STILL like Thank You for Smoking but truth is your opinion smacks of the "intellectual elite" who liked TYfS all the way up until everybody else did and then all of a sudden it lost it's charm.

Still while I completely disagree with the opinion on nearly every level (and could really argue many of the points) I can atleast respect this opinion.

All I can say is I now have Ozzy's distorted voice in my head growling mechanically, "I am Iron Man." And thus begins the guitar riff to one of metal's most famous anthems.

I found Sean's comments interesting, but who is the Sundance girl that likes Butterfly Effect? Was a post deleted? If not, I guess it's me. Sorry, I didn't see those movies but I dont like predictable movies and I like Sundance movies except that they are sometimes too artsy fartsy and have unsatisfactory endings without coming to conclusions.

When I was talking to a guy at work and he asked me if I liked any adventure stories (since I didn't like Iron Man) I said yeah, I like Unforgiven and Chinatown, and he just scratched his head and said no, that's not what I'm talking about. If that's "intellectual elite", well to me it's just not liking predictable uncreative formulaic stuff, and appreciating excellent work.

I like what the astrologer Grant Lewi wrote about my Sun-Moon combination of Scorpio Sun with Pisces Moon. He said that we are part of that appreciative and discriminating public without which the arts are useless and pointless. Joni Mitchell is another Scorpio Sun - Pisces Moon.

See I pegged you right in one try.  The kinds of people who don't like Iron Man are the people who only like those artsy fartsy Sundance flicks.  Unforgiven was pretty predictable btw.

So hearing that you found nothing redeeming in Ironman meant that you were one of those people who really just shouldn't go to the movies, least not to the "big" movies cus you no in advance that you're not going to like it.  You're jus tlike mf friend who's in film school, he's the guy who was watching Constantine and in the first five minutes he said Constantine is going to die.  They had used a predictable camera shot.

So it's not an insult, it's just that you knew you weren't going to like the movie before you walked in so I don't really understand why you bothered to give it a chance.  Just like when my friends wanted to go watch White Noise I knew I wasn't going to like it so I sat that one out.

Ah Stonie this is a trillergy and had you stayed to see the after credits you would have known that 2 was shot already and they are in the process of doing 3.

#2 I thought Downey was a wildcard too and I scratched my head at that casting but he proved brillant and magnificant in the role. Since Tony Starks was a playboy who lived a simular life to Downeys' in the respect that they both had money young, could get fried, dipped and dyed with any drug or alcohol of choice due to personal pain(Downey's pain? who knows,Stark's pain-probably the father's death),then I'd say the casting couldn't be further from the truth. Downey also  did favor Stark a bit.

Anyway the kids and I LOVED it and we are looking forward to the next two. I look forward to seeing Terrance Howard's character develop and to seeing what Jon Favour could come up with yet and if his role in 2 will be bigger than his two 20minute scenes in 1. Between him and Ed Norton I think we are going to see just about every childhood comicbook hero that they admired come to life.

And from what I hear Norton's been a FANATIC(to the point of being a royal pain in the ass to many) and very detailed about his version of Hulk coming out next month. It looks good. And since I found out he helped write X-Men 1 without credit and was instumental in the casting of Hugh Jackman who was an excellent Wolverine and was dead on and was so detailed that the movie worked, I think I'll respect his artistic vision enough to go see Hulk although the last version was crappy.

Also looking forward the the next Batman installment as 5yrold loves, owns and smells anything Batman. He owns so many Batman figures theres no longer room in the kids bedroom for them. Dark Knight promises to be good and Heath was a good actor so I lookforward to his joker. Do you know Nicholson actually asked the producers to reprise the role? Now how could his old ass want to be in the prequel with sch a young cast? Even the producers said NO and kept it moving.

Sorry to hijack your post. ~Husbandhater~  Mother of 3boys,sister of 2brothers.

I didn't knwo the secone one had been shot.  I didn't even know they'd settled on a bad guy.  Guess I won't get my dream of Ironman vs Hulk for the next movie then, they probably picked Mandarin or somebody else who's going to look equally stupid on big screen

I went cause my friend wanted to and I always do whatever he wants to do. He's a really nice guy. He had his two little daughters with him and I figured they'd like it. They are like 10 and 12. I'd never tell him that I thought the movie was dumb.

My enjoyment of Iron Man lies in the actual possibility of such exoskeletal enchancements being created. While also a scary thought - an army of evil Iron Men would be devastating - the wonders of empowerment to explore and improve the world through such devices are exciting
