Hi, I check out earthfiles once a week to see what is going on. Honey bees dying is something that could cause a world wide famine.

Whether the cause is mutated viruses (like one found first in Israel and is called the Israeli virus and hopefully nobody out there in neo-Nazi land will use this also against us) or Monsanto's genetically modified seeds with their own built in pesticides, or some other causes, we may all be up shit's creek or we may all have to go out to the farms with little brushes to hand pollinate our food crops....

actually, that's cropped up very occasionally in the US mainstream news too, but it doesn't seem to get much play. and yes, it's very worrying, i agree.

Most 'news' today is actually what we were taught in journalism class as 'features'. There is barely 10% news in any online newpaper today and I would assume printed newspapers also.

The biggest news, outside of Iran developing a bomb and long range missiles (that could hit Europe) and their acquiring submarines (they could hit the states that way) is the possibility of famine. Bread riots have occurred in Egpyt--which was the bread basket of the Roman Empire, bread riots have hit other parts of the world where once the crops were abundant. It's not just wheat, but rice and corn that has been affected. And then on top of that even American food pantries have no more reserves and are turning people away. People who are working, not only those on welfare can't afford enough food---in the US.

So I am getting worried about famine. World wide famine--even before I read that there is again real trouble with honey bees. Why aren't these stories being stressed? Why aren't resources being funneled into research and solutions?

During WWII people grew vegetables in home gardens I'm sure we could all find a way, with a little expert help, of growing potatoes and beans and some vegetables.

But this won't happen if all anyone reads about are celebrity weddings and divorces and drug and alchohol arrests. etc.

Hi, yes it frightens me , for the world's food stocks are very low as it is. I believe that all of us should start growing some of our own food if possible. We can use plastic sheets to make green houses for instance.

    Not a bad idea.

In the 1960's there was a huge book called the The Whole Earth Catalogue with hundreds of ideas about how to have a lifestyle of survival, of natural foods, of non-waste, all of these ideas might have to be revived for all of us to survive a changing planet.
