Just so that you all don't think I'm a mopey sad sack, I thought I'd also blog about something good that I found out yesterday. It's so good, in fact, that I didn't want to put it in the same blog as the one about my money woes and my toxic ex.
For the past 3-4 summers when the kids are with Bill and I we pick a project for them to work on while we're at work. The first one was buying my son an electronics lab and my daughter a chemistry set. They had to do one experiment a day and write a one page report on it.
Another summer we worked on putting some weight on both of them. We had them on a regiment of exersize and heavy calorie meals supplimented with protein shakes. I know that seems weird, but my kids were dangerously close to sickly thin. We took them to jujitsu classes with us 2 times a week and even included them in our massage classes. They went back to their dad well relaxed and about 10 pounds heavier a piece.
The last summer we had them both (2 years ago) we bought them note pad, sketch pads, pastels, charcoals, colored pencils, water colors, etc. and required them to work on either a writing project or art project for an hour each day. That summer my son started writing a sci fi story.
It lay dormant and 1/2 done last summer becuase he was working at his dad's house over the summer. Then, when he was required to pick a senior high school project he decided to finnish the story and submit it for publication. He coasted on it most of this year, but on spring break he finished writing it and we both worked on getting it typed into the computer.
When I talked to him yesterday I asked him if he had finished the project. I was a little nervous that he wouldn't get it done. Not only did he finish the edits, but he had sent it in to a publisher and has received a reply.
They want to publish his book!!!! He just needs to further refine his grammer editing and sign a contract with him. He'll receive royalties on each book sold! I'm so proud of him my heart nearly burst when he told me. I'm definately gonna buy a few copies of it myself, and get the author to sign the books. After all, I've got connections! ;)
So, despite my sucky financial life, I do have something to keep me from signing myself into a nut house.
