The newest offering by Nintendo.

If you tell my children I said this, I'll deny it, but it was a blast!  My daughter has a new Wii game system.  The four of us Wii-ed our little hearts out!  mrMimi and I "bowled" and I kicked his butt!  LOL

For those who don't know, it's a video game system with a difference.  You actually have to move to get it to work.  To bowl, you have to mimic the action of throwing the ball, with the little controller in your hand.

I  pretend bowl a helluva lot better than I bowl for real.  Last time I bowled for real, Ronald Reagan was president, and I sucked mightily.  My score hit an all-time high of 16.  I Wii-ed a 154.

I have decided I need to Wii on a regular basis.  It's good physical activity for me, and it's fun.  We were all in hysterics by the time we were finished playing.

I think I'll ask for one for my birthday.

My mother-in-law just gave DH a Wii for an early birthday present, and those things are SO much fun! :-D We're loving it. Even little one can swing at the baseball in the baseball game!

I stink at bowling in real life, but I do pretty well at Wii bowling, too. I should teleport you over here so we can play together. ;-)

LOL  oh now that sounds like fun!  I got two strikes in a row.  That would never happen in real life, I promise you!

We had a ball laughing at all the little Mii's at the bowling alley.

  • SeanRenaud said on May 13, 2008....
I'm the worst bowler in history and I can consistently get a score of 45.  All time high of 16!  Lies!

Also good luck getting a Wii,  18 months after it's release it still sold out most places.
  • Zayda said on May 13, 2008....
They really are fun. Baseball is fun on them. Mimi, did you know that they use Wii's in lots of rehab clinics and nursing homes as ways to incorporate physical activity for patients and residents. I was reading an article about that somewhere the other day. And now, I can't for the life of me remember where.
  • Fallyn said on May 13, 2008....
that sounds like a LOT of fun!

We have a Wii here, but it's my Sister's and she just left it here for Little Daily.  Little Daily kicks butt at bowling, it's almost lame watching her get strike after strike, but she's 5 and her reaction is priceless!

BE CAREFUL when you're playing these so much though.  My MOM was playing every day and got tennis elbow! LOL!  I'm not even kidding.

    yay buy one!!!! =)
  • MissMimi said on May 13, 2008....

Sean, 45??  You obviously have a ways to go to get down to my level.  :D

Zee, I read the same thing.  I think it's a great idea -- which is why I want one.

Fallyn, it is a lot of fun.  I don't normally like these kinds of games, but this is pretty neat.

Daily, LOL!  Little Daily would probably beat me!  Y'know, after a while, my shoulder started to hurt.  That's when I stopped.

  • MissMimi said on May 13, 2008....
queeniebeanie, I want to!  I think it will be hard to find though, like Sean said.

Oh yes, when you describe it, I have heard about it. Actually my daughter in law Adda was talking about it and said it was great to move with and my husband said that one could move without having it. Difference in generations. lol   Or rather different points of view that their generations have.

MissMimi you have succeeded in making me laugh my high knee off !
  • Mamie said on May 13, 2008....
oh my! That sounds fun! How do you play? And what the hell is this thing? Is it the same game that my daughter and her friends play the guitar with? Or is that something completely different? So you have to buy each sport separately? wait, whats this gonna run me?  I think maybe I need one too!
  • MissMimi said on May 13, 2008....

Raven, LOL  We were making all kinds of Wii-jokes, like, 'I Wii everyday', or 'I think I need a wee Wii.'

skald, that's what my husband said at first, but he enjoyed it when he tried it.

CM, Uh oh...  Did I make you Wii?  ;)

  • MissMimi said on May 13, 2008....
Mamie, you would love it!  I know there is a guitar thingie -- I think it's called Guitar Hero.  The system comes with Wii Sports which has five or six games on it.  My daughter said some of them really make you work up a sweat.  She said boxing is a lot of fun.  Yeah, the only thing is, it's gonna run several hundred dollars.  Oh well...
  • SeanRenaud said on May 13, 2008....
250 dollars, you'll have a hard time finding one anyway.  Wiisports has 5 games in it.  Bowling, baseball, tennis, golf and Boxing.  Boxing can really work up a sweat if you let it.  Really so can tennis.

Boxing and Bowling are easily the the best games on there, but Tennis can be a blast, the other games are like high end tech demos.  If you enjoy these "low" end games you'd probably want to pick up and of the following.  WiiPlay, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Wario Ware, Mario PArty 7(8?)  as they offer similar experiences.

Guitar Hero 1-3 can be purchases for your PS2 btw.  3 is on the Wii also.  Great little game, it generaly runs you about 90 but it comes with the guitar.

  • wombat said on May 13, 2008....
I've only seen these things advertised, but it does sound like so much fun!  I would like the bowling game myself.  I wonder if they will ever have table shuffle board?  I used to be a whiz at that!
  • TinSoldier said on May 13, 2008....
I wanted the Wii even before it came out, but my wife said at that time "no more game systems in the house!"

But she has relented since her brother and sister are going to pitch in to buy one for the kids for their birthdays coming up. (One Wii, three birthdays).

Well, she went to three different stores today and I went to three different stores looking for one. They are all out at the moment. We want to try and get one by this weekend.

We've still got a couple of other places to check though.

    Glad you enjoyed it!
  • SeanRenaud said on May 13, 2008....
Just keep hunting Tin, they are hard to get.  You can probably cut a decent deal on Ebay now, I mean all of the people who REALLY want one have gotten them by now.

  • TinSoldier said on May 13, 2008....
    Heh, I know, Sean.

My wife talked to her brother, and the WalMart up there has eight of 'em, but Washington has a sales tax whereas Oregon doesn't. But Oregon has only a few WalMarts, at least in the Portland area. The nearest one is about thirty miles away from us.

We're gonna try to not get it online for now. That will be a last resort.
  • SeanRenaud said on May 13, 2008....
Well call around there are stores that aren't Walmart ya know and the ones that specialize in gaming are gonna be more likely to call you when they get in stock.
  • lalaine1 said on May 13, 2008....
I've always been wanting to buy one! But in my country, it costs $480 US Dollars! Too expensive.
  • skald said on May 13, 2008....
Mimi. Mine has never seen it , not have I, just heard about it   and Adda said it was such fun. I believe her.
  • Mamie said on May 13, 2008....
I always wanted to play tennis! Yay!! I am gonna save my money.... unless I pretend and buy one for my daughter for graduation? Think she will be mad when she ccan't take it to college? shhh! She will never figure it out! I am gonna go buy the tennis outfit now to get ready!!
  • petitepapillon said on May 13, 2008....

I hope you get a Wii, Mimi, especially since it sounds like you had a blast with it.

I managed to get my hands on one last Christmas and have loved it ever since. My current game obsession is Mario Kart. When you buy the game, it comes with a Wii wheel, where you stick the Wiimote in the middle. It's so much fun!

I am now waiting for Wii Fit, a game, or rather, an exercise program. It's got yoga and muscles exercises you can do. It's a bit pricey at $90, but with game reviewers saying it's actually good and being a new way to exercise over the same old boring routine, I plan on getting it.

  • crybabylu said on May 13, 2008....
Good for you, I have never been any good at computer games.  I thought it was my age.  But, have since talked to others my age and they are a whiz at them, so I guess I can't cop age, huh.  Have fun...
  • silverwhisper said on May 14, 2008....
ah, is that what the deal with these things is? i never did understand why the things were so popular!

you know, i've never once played a console game--not since the 80s & intellivision/atari. i figure i have enough addictions as it is, you know?

A Wii is quite possibly one of the more interesting fitness investments you can make. Here in SA they actively promote it as an exercise tool.... ;)
  • TinSoldier said on May 17, 2008....
    Wii!!

Just finished setting it up for the kids and now they're making their players.
  • SeanRenaud said on May 17, 2008....
    It's not aplayer it's a Mii!!!!!

And mine looks pretty much like me!!!!
  • TinSoldier said on May 17, 2008....
I know!!! But I felt silly typing Mii and Wii in the same post!!

    But exclamation points are cool!!
