Today is Mother's Day.  Olia was excited to give me a gift.  She and Dan got me a new cookie press(which happened to be exactly what I wanted).  I reminded Olia all day that she wasn't supposed to whine or complain to me because it's Mother's Day and that's the rule.  I had to remind her a few times, but she stopped complaining right away.  I wish it could be Mother's Day everyday!  Yesterday we went to the dollar store and got a few things for our host child next month.  Somehow we winded up with TWO of everything.  We came out with TWO jump ropes, TWO balls, TWO wooden figures to paint and TWO paper doll books.  I want to pack a small suitcase for Olya(our host child) for when she returns to Ukraine.  I hope she fits into most of Olia's clothes, but I bought her a few new things so it would be special for her and she can take those clothes back to Ukraine.
Today we went food shopping.  Olia's food tastes have sure changed in the last year. She never wants yogurt anymore and she use to live by it!  She also now likes the fattening American cookies instead of fig newtons or plain vanilla cookies.  She still loves fresh fruit and vegetables but, she still won't take those items for lunch because she gets teased. Today our cart was overflowing because we hadn't food shopped in quite awhile.  It seems I always spend so much more when Dan and Olia shop with me.  Dan will say yes to almost anything Olia asks for in the food store, I read the labels first and usually say NO.  Dan and Olia went to the train station to pick up Renee.  She is finished college for the summer!  Olia called me on their way back home to as if she could have soda for dinner.  I said, of course not, it's not a holiday!  Olia said...yes, it is, It's Mother's Day and you always let us have soda on holidays!
After Olia's softball games, the kids are always given a snack.  Each family has to bring one snack for all of the team members on an assigned date. We took apple juice and snack pretzels when it was Olia's turn.  Yesterday the assigned mom must have forgotten so the coach gave the kids tickets for the snack bar.  Olia came back with a chocolate eclair ice cream bar.  I don't think she had ever seen one before, but the other girls got one so she had one too and she loved it!  I have only ever given her frozen yogurt.  Today in the food store, she asked me to buy a box of chocolate eclairs; she put them back before I even answered her because she knew the answer would be NO!
