I'm thinking of what future lies ahead of my 2 month old baby as a mother I want him to see how beautiful the world we live in... but sometimes I'm becoming too pathetic of what's happening to our world, the most recent a terror plan to blow up jetliners in UK bound to US, in our country there's the threat of terrorist attacks, the unstoppable rebels cursing the goverment and civilians, killer typhoons, floods, eruption of volcano, rallies, ununified government system and officials etc...some part of the western countries are experiencing the heat wave, in asian countries on the contrary is the vigorous movement of the typhoons and killer tsunamis and in the middle east the civil war between Lebanon and Israel...what's next? Everytime I watch t.v. the news are always full of terror...Is this what we called the signs of our time - that the end is near...I believe God has his own purpose but I'm just an ordinary person who's seeking for answers to life's questions and a mother who wants to give his child a beautiful life... Am I the only one experiencing this restless speculations?

hi perfectingmypast. welcome to soulcast. it is normal for us parents to worry about all these things. in fact, it is our "duty" (if you may call it) to worry about all the bad things happening around. looking at what is going on around the world (and in our own country) makes us realize that things are going haywire... what future awaits our children? all we can do, as ordinary citizens, is to pray and be more pro-active.

Sadly, if you look at any point in time you will see humans hurting other humans somewhere. That is the way the world is. There once was a Roman (forgot who, might have been Greek) who said almost three thousand years ago that the world was becoming much too violent and that he longed for the simpler and quieter days of the past. Human history is written in blood. As for earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis you will have to wait until the core of the earth has radiated most of its heat energy into space so that the mantle will settle down and bring plate techtonics to a stop. Mars is smaller and has very little seismic activity. Typhoons and hurricanes will only get worse as the climate warms. But not to worry. One possibility is that global warming could possibly "flip" and innitiate a cooling cycle instead. Then we would see ourselves enter the next glacial period. We are in an interglacial period now that is a natural part of the periglacial period that currently grips the earth, largely due to the current positioning of the bulk of the continents near one of the poles (north). Once the continents drift away from the north pole the periglacial period will end and we can look forward to warmer days and altered ocean currents. But I guess your child won't have to think about that. Hope I helped. Basically, teach your child to be a decent, responsible human being and you will do your part to ensure that good people still walk the unstable Earth.

Hi perfectingmypast. First thank you for reading my first blog: youmylifesong. I am a pastor, logging in my pastoral journey; pretty boring stuff, daily encounters, and reflection upon life. I can identify with you on the signs of the times. In fact I just told my church yesterday, referring to the wars, earthquakes etc, that it is not going to get better. That is why we need God, and have the assurance that our children's future can be secure in His hands. Oh, we were celebrating Youth Sunday. Faith in God and prayer helps us know that we are not left alone to work out our problems. I can also identify with you on the need for financial freedom. Ya, I have 4 kids, and I don't know where funds will come from, but trust God to provide. Faith is a struggle sometimes. I agree with aasia; quidnunc; and hotaka in that we do our best and leave the rest to God if we can believe. I do. Allow me to bless you and your child with my pastoral blessing. God bless you all.

It really is frightening to be a mother at a time like this. The war, terrorism, every day fears we have to live with - it is very frightening. I just hope nothing bad happens to my daughter - but I suppose we can't always be there to protect them :( PinkjellyBeans

Perfecting my past, as a parent it is hard enough to raise our children with out all of the problems of the world getting in the way. You're child will grow up just fine, remember that you are the one that they count on for every thing, until the day comes, to let them go on their own, If you let the real world get you down they will reflect this in there attitude. It is up to you to stay the course of parent hood, it's the toughest job you wil love or hate on any given day. I have raised 3 boys and have one still in school. Pray pray and pray some more for the strenght and guidence you will need. and yes it does work if you are not selfish. Silvio.

A dear friend of mine for 30 years (since kindergarten) just gave birth to an amazing baby girl. What I read on the father's blog made me feel that there was another hope for the world born that day. With two spectacular human beings for parents that girl is going to grow up and do something to epitomize the goodness and wonder of humanity. Just remember that each child born brings promise to the human race.

I have the same thoughts and fears. As a mother, it is heartbreaking to give birth to a perfect child and then have to fear for what they might have to go through and endure in this world which we live. It is frightning to think that, someday, we will be gone and our babies will be left, fending for themselves, possibly going through terror and pain.

But, this is the way of life and, unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to protect our children. We, ourselves, are children of our parents and they have the same fears. It is all a circle of life. It is just a shame that fellow human beings - fellow children - are causing chaos and heartache.

Watching an adorable 1 year-old baby is quiet amusing. She is trying to figure out where to place a lovely playhouse of her doll. One-year-olds are just starting their forays into friendships....
