do you find it easier to roll through your my users pages or my conversations pages?

i was reflecting on the fact that, at least for me, i normally could have 20 pages of my conversations and still run through that faster than 5 pages of my users.

am i alone in that or is this a more common experience than i thought?

That's the experience I have, and I think it's usually because you almost know beforehand what a lot of people might say, so reading through 2-5 comments at a time per post is still much faster than reading a medium-length new post from somebody.

My My Conversations tab moves a lot faster than the My Users one, but it's still faster to read through the former most of the time.

I almost always go to my conversations tab first.  Then I'll go to the users if my time permits.  I take a look at the featured page too.

Conversations are easier and quicker. I always look at those first. And most of the time I don't need to comment further on posts that aren't mine. The users takes longer because I actually have to read the post and not just the comments.

I look at my users first and then the conversations. What we have on the other blog is easier.  Well it might be difficult to describe. It is a window which we have on the so called control board. don't know what you would call it. there you see your blog friends icons or pictures and then what they have latley written. If you have already been there it goes away automatically. This is not so time consuming as here.

I agree, Ed, but I must admit, that I dont read every new blog by my users esp if I have very little time.  I also dont go back to every post under my conversations esp if the blogger and I have already exchanged words.  I have my opening page to SC set as My Users. . .I scroll through the titles and then I see what's happening under My Conversations and do some commenting if need be and then only to I go back to My Users to comment.

Conversations first, and then I skim My Users to see if anything catches my eye, usually by title or by summary.

You know, I hardly ever look at tags unless I'm responding to a blog.

Hmm. That's probably why I treat this more as a forum than as a blog.

infernal: as i'm sure you could have guessed, i agree. :> seems like our experiences with those pages is pretty similar!

CW: i usually try to work both of 'em at the same time, to be honest--it actually helps me if SC is slow in processing my comments! :D my default SC link brings me to the main page so i always see the featured page--which lately is how i usually find newcomers.

kyle: yeah, i agree with you about the why, which it seems is also infernal's experience. that's kinda nifty, actually, if you ask me. :>

skald: oo, i see how that works on your other site. that sounds more similar to a discussion forum to me. i can definitely see how that would be faster than the way it is here. :>

polar: hey, it's not like i always have time to read everyone's blogs, either, so i feel your pain. :> your way seems like it would be rather time efficient. perhaps i should reconsider the way i spend my time here?

sis: there's something kinda reliable about my conversations, isn't there?

TS: i generally treat this place like a forum too--but i do tend to pay attention to tags b/c i find that if i scope out the tags while the page is loading, i have some idea of what to expect. :>

super z: yeah, my conversations is invariably faster to go through for me, too. my users can be slower for the reasons already stated by others, IMX.

daily: that appears to be the way most folks do it too. i'm wondering if maybe i'm a weirdo for working 'em both in tandem, you know?

I run a lot faster through the my conversations page as well.. I think reading the blogs and then thinking and commenting take more time than running through comments on something u've already read..
  • tbs230 said on May 10, 2008....
I read the My conversation tabs first. If I have to respond to someone, I feel its only right that I get to them first. Then I check out my Users...which takes more time.

I rarely check My Interest, because it's usually the same thing that's under My Users...which makes sense, although if I've done everything its nice to see if any new bloggers share the same interest as me.

Featured page is my opening page, so I scroll through quickly to see what's new, but I rarely click on any of those posts before I hit the other tabs.

    Confused

    befuddled

    Mixed up

Lost in space........... I use my convos to catch up recent stuff but I use My users much more I think when finding new posts.... I'm not that popular to have pages and pages of my users or interests so I flit and flutter about until I get dizzy and fall of my chair...
  • Trinov said on May 11, 2008....
Hi, I go through the conversations first, and then if I have time I go into one blogger at a time to see if there is anything I'd like to read and perhaps comment on. I don't usually have too much time -at one time. I go in for half an hour or fifteen minutes a few times a day when I have the time. Then there are weeks I barely have any time at all, so going through users tabs is confusing me, while the conversations jarr my memory to what was going on.
  • silverwhisper said on May 11, 2008....
tbs: yeah, i generally ignore my interests too--although i think that page organizes by featured posts, rather than latest. once upon a time, my conversations was organized that way by default. but yeah, my interests is IMX more or less identical to my users. i start at the featured posts/main page, too. :>

rusty: yep, that seems like the norm for folks. :>

tobi-lee: er...how do you use the my users page to find new folks? did you mean most recent, maybe?

trinov: it can be really tricky if you only have a little time here or there, so yeah, using my users is probably very difficult in that context, i would think!

conversations page first then users..I just figure that keeps my conversation page shorter and more up to date..
  • pusscat said on May 11, 2008....

I go through Conversation first as many people I converse with are commenting with an answer or advice and not just a comment if you see what I mean.  Then I go to Users second, so I don't miss any of my friend's new posts.  I used to love using My Interests as I have often found a new person had created a post that wouldn't necessarily have been front page and I wouldn't have seen them otherwise.  I like to welcome them to Soulcast too as newbies.  Once we subscribe to each other then I get them in My Users.  My Interests is now almost out of bounds for me as an Adult Content tag user as it's now filled with about 15 pages of 'you know who' as he uses Adult Content tag :-(

I must admit that I am easiy sidetracked so flit on and off the feature pages all higgledy piggledy :-)

I must be missing out on some good things here. Where can I find my conversation pages or user pages (tabs)?

Maybe my isp is right. Maybe I should upgrade from cans and string technology. I've notived I've been receiving alot more error messages from flies landing on the string this year.
  • pusscat said on May 11, 2008....
Aah - bless youCayenneMan.  I had to ask that same question a couple of months back too.  If you click on the Soulcast logo, very top left of the screen, the page you get then has tabs at the top.  They are Home, My Users, My Interests and My Conversations.  My Conversations will let you see who made the very last comment and how long ago on a post you yourself have commented on.  You then get to see the whole flow of conversation and can again reply yourself.  My Users is exactly what it says - you see all the latest posts by those you subscribe to - never miss anything even it it's not front page post.

Hope that helps friend - I was gonna send this via string but my can's a bit dented :-)

scipio, quietone: yeah, that looks like the norm for most of us. :>

pusscat: you might be the very first person i know to make regular use of the my interests page! :D heh..."higgledy piggledy"--i really like that expression. :D and thanks for answering cayenneman's question. :>

cayenneman: o wow--you'll find that those two pages are exceedingly useful in keeping abreast of what's going on with people! :>

My Grandma passed away. My mom and I went to the hospital around 4 hours ago knowing that this may happen. I couldn't go in after hearing my dad describe her state. I have chosen to remember her as I've always seen her....
that I think I like most...
for being an idiot and talking shit!...
