What do you use? Many have a dictionary by their computer or at least a link to dictionary.com, but what other tool or link do you have?

So you write up articles and if they like it they pay you for them?
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 11, 2006....
that's the long and short of it, yeah. i know nothing about this bunch, though, so i obviously can't vouch for 'em. however, given that you're quite the research fiend, you'll probably turn up more than i would anyway. :> ed

dictionary & thesaurus.com are my friend. Other than that it's source material as and when I need it.

Books on mythology, history, and philosophy I find are helpful as references. I seldom use a dictionary or thesaraus. I also have a couple of baby name books that I kept from when before my child was born because I find them useful in helping me find names for characters if I am writing fiction. Although sometimes the name of a character just seems to spring to mind as I think about the intricacies of the personality of the character.

My android brother, Casper. He writes most of this stuff. That is why my (his) comments are so stupid and my (his) posts suck. I (Casper) am actually writing this while Skyler is back on our home world for the day. OK, he never even gets on here anymore. It is all me. (evil laugh) He signed up weeks ago to learn more about earthlings and lost interest almost immediately because there is very little information and lots of chatting. I saw him enter his password in a mirror and recorded it. I have been blogging ever since trying to earn enough to buy an Apple Ipod. I want to tear it down and see how it works so I can install similar technology in our ship. We love to download and listen to Elvis and Beatle music. You know, the last real music created on your planet. Cheers.

Please tell me you're not one of those three idiots looking for a blonde for that stupid 'alien pets' show who kidnapped me seven years ago.

I also like wikipedia and write additions to their info sometimes. My first choice is real life interviews. For example, if I want to learn about flintknapping, I talk to flintknappers. I like to talk to people over 70, because we are going to lose their experiences if we don't save what they have to tell us. I used merriam-webster.com at least once a day. I use witchvox.com whenever I need information on pagan holidays. I use wunderground.com for weather and storm and geographical information. And I read a ton of craft blogs and art sites. I find most websites don't go into much depth or they plagerize so you end up with the same (sometimes wrong) information over and over again. Once I was looking for info on brown zebra stone and found a dozen sites with the exact same article and photo. Once I wrote an article on tasseography and found it showing up all over the internet (obviously copied from my website). So if I really want to write about something, I still use the good old fashioned library.

To Silver RE: Heliumknowledge People that build sites like that are geniuses. They get thousands of writers working for them for free, and in turn, pay out very little cash. They even get writers to read and review the work of the other writers, so they get editors working for them for free as well. I feel like a dope for letting myself be manipulated yet again, but I signed up anyway. I guess I have a love/hate relationship with being exploited. Did you sign up for it too? At least Expendable will get people clicking on the ads. Hope they have adsense.

no i haven't: my bet is that a site like that claims copyright over submitted material. i don't think that's particularly good for you. ed
