Last night Olia's AWANAS bible school program had an end of year barbecue for the kids and families. It was really nice. Olia and Christina, adopted from Russia, ran around and played together. They both have the same Russian look, tall and slender with dark hair and freckles. They look so much alike. Olia was glad to see all of her Bible school friends. When we went inside, there was a slide show presentation of the kids doing activities during the year. Olia liked seeing herself in the slides during the presentation. The moms and dads sat behind the kids. In Olia's row, six girls sat together. All of them were adopted, which I think Olia feels makes them al a bit different fro other kids. Ukraine has a stigmatism associated with adoption. So I am glad that Olia is seeing adoption as a positive, happy thing.
Olia received an award for cheerfulness and cooperation. Every child received an award for something. Olia wanted to know what cheerfulness meant. I told her it meant NOT being cranky(like she is at home sometimes). When we were leaving, there was a cart with bagged cooked hamburgers with twelve hamburgers in them. The cook was handing out bags as people passed by. Dan said......wow, this is my lucky day, talk about being in the right place at the right time! He was glad to take the burgers home!
