"Really?"
He nodded, and I was left to marvel at how a discussion of Christianity sprung forth in a public schoolroom.
"Not everyone is Christian. Some are Muslim, Jewish..." I trailed off, not wishing to complicate the issue. Never did I expect the next statement.
"Oh, yeah. The Jews killed God."
This was all very reminiscent of the Thanksgiving turkey. A colorful cutout where he had been told to carefully pen to a feather: I am thankful for God.
Regardless of my own faith and what I choose to believe, I think if religion is to be the curriculum, the teacher wants for open-mindedness.
Oh, that's right: it isn't part of the curriculum. I just don't see how this lesson promotes religious tolerance (one of those things our country was founded upon). And what the devil ever happened to the separation of church and state? Or teaching my child arithmetic, a few spelling words? Certainly not to spout fire and brimstone!
I hope I don't burn in hell for this.
