In the past month my interest on freelancing grew so I started to search the web on some advice on the subject and that's how I came across an article by Rachel Goldstein.

Rachel Goldstein considers that before you accept a freelance project you should ask yourself the following questions:

1. Will I learn from this project?

2. Is the money good?

3. Do you trust the client?

4. Does the project fit with your moral code?

5. Will this project help build your contact list?

6. Will this job lead to Widespread exposure of my services?

7. Does this job interest you?

I hope other SoulCasters will find this blog entry useful.

Pretty good advice. If you're just starting sometimes, as an unknown you don't always get the best deal on freelance rates but it's a subtle form of advertising, by word of mouth for referrals to build in as your popularity grows. Just curious, what line of work do you do? Thanks for subscribing to my Adsense recommendation and I'm adopting the policy of clicking on your site as the Ads turn out to be relevant and useful. As compared to no participation at all, interaction is much much better.

My line of work... well I'm still in highschool on the point of starting my senior year. I really appreciate that you took your time to comment my post. I've been here only for a few days I didn't expect to be noticed, especially by the top members of SoulCast.

As a ghostwriter for over six years I find your advice very apt. I remember posting a question in www.fmwriters board in relation to what there is to gain or lose in being a ghost writer, in other words, freelance. I got a lot of feed back from renowned writers in the community. Some said as long as there's personal satisfaction, they'll go ahead and do it. Some said it is just for the money. Whatever reasons we give for going freelance, I think caution is necessary because we are talking about intellectual property here. We need to guide it jealously. I've been used and dumped by people who think they are smart because I took things for granted and didn't do my mathematics well in terms of protecting my interests. I've learned my lessons as a result and I'm a lot more careful in my freelancing now.

I have not done any reseach on this, but it seems to me freelancing musta been a big hit back in the days of Ivanhoe and his bunch. Other than that, it was a good blog. :)
