Who's reading BDSMrose (7):

The Mint Julep is a timeless southern classic, traditionally made from bourbon, water, mint leaves, and sugar. For a fresh summer twist try this creamy melon version.

Things You’ll Need:

  • 2 cups Honey Dew melon
  • 1/2 cup of mint leaves
  • 3/4 cup of water
  • 3 tablspoons of sugar
  • 2 ounces of the bourbon of your choice
  • 2 cups ice.
  • Blender

1. Bruise the mint leaves. You can do this by rolling them in your palm a few times. This helps the flavor to release. Save a couple to garnish with.

2. Simmer the water, and mint leaves together for about three minutes. Remove the leaves and discard. Add the sugar to boiled mint water and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Set aside to cool. You can easily do this step ahead of time.

3.  Chop two cups of melon. I prefer Honey Dew for the color but you can substitute any kind.

4. Combine Melon, mint water, ice, and blend for one minute or until smooth.

5.  Pour into two glasses and garnish with the remaining mint leaves.

my wife's a fan of juleps, but hates honeydew melons, sadly. otherwise, this would sound absolutely fantastic. using honeydew is a really nifty idea!
