Author's note: A technical glitch caused the latter half of Dyingman 61 to be truncated. You might wish to see the rest if you read last week's entry.
Back in Dyingman 17, I found an article (probably from Mirkin again) informing us that green leafy vegetables contained healthful levels of nitrites. When hemoglobin in the blood cells releases oxygen, it converts nitrites to nitric oxide, which widens blood vessels. This may lower blood pressure and lower the effects of blood vessel blockage but perhaps most importantly, it widens the same blood vessels Viagra is supposedly widening.
I've been buying canned veggies for lunch lately (see Dyingman 55: "What's for Lunch, Margaret?") and branched out from my staples of Hoppin' John and Triple Succotash and threw in the occasional can of greens. Glory, Silvia's and Margaret Holmes all offer seasoned varieties of canned greens and I found the collard greens to be the best so far. I hadn't been thinking about the effects I'd read about when I wrote Dyingman 17, so I didn't put two and two together when I was unusually pleased with dyingwife one night. It was only when opening the second can that I thought of the first can and wondered whether the effect might be that profound.
I paid attention the second time and thought I noticed some enhancement going on. I'll continue to monitor whether this is for real, but even if it is psychosomatic (having an effect simply because you think it will), I'll be eating better, so it's a good delusion.
