Last night I wasn't feeling very good. I have really bad allergies that act up during this time of year. I usually feel like crap for awhile before I either get used to the pollens or they go away. But anyhow, I felt horrible so I made it an early night. I went to bed around 8:30pm, but Nat wasn't tired yet, so she stayed up.
I made sure that the bedroom had no cats inside it to bother me. I just wanted to crash out and get some rest. Especially since I'm still waking up hella early every morning. I was exhausted. So I'm laying there in the bed, attempting to fall asleep. And I heard some rustling by the closet. Nat left some shopping bags there from our trip to Mervyn's and Old Navy last weekend. I thought that one of the cats had been sneaky and managed to slip past me, even though I checked before I closed the door.
I was a little annoyed, but I was too tired to get up and shoo them out. I figured they'd get bored of playing in the bag and just come up on the bed and sleep with me. And the rustling stopped fairly quickly, so I didn't think that much of it. Then I heard what sounded like footsteps in the room. They sounded like person steps though, and not a cat. So I sat up and looked around, and I didn't see anyone. The door was still closed and Nat wasn't there. And I didn't see any cats either.
I thought it was strange, but I just laid back down again and assumed I was hearing things. Then I heard the steps again. And then I felt something jostle the bed, like a cat jumping onto it. And I could feel the mattress press down by my feet. I truly thought it was my cat. I knew I hadn't see her around when I looked, but cats hide. And the room was dark, so I figured I missed her. And I felt the bed moving and the sensation of something possibly walking on it. It started at my feet, and went up the length of the bed. Like something crawling on it.
Then I heard a weird breathing sound. Maybe a cat? So I opened my eyes and looked and there was nothing there. And I sat up and looked at the bed, and there was nothing there! No cat, no person. Nothing. But I FELT something staring at me when I laid back down again. You know how you can just tell when someone/something is looking at you? And I could still hear the sound of breathing, this time right by my face. And then the bed started vibrating. Not like an earthquake. It was much more subtle than that. It felt like one of those magic finger beds at a cheap motel.
And it did that for about 5 minutes, then it stopped. And suddenly everything was all quiet again. And I fell asleep. But seriously, WTF? What was that?? I have no explanation. I know I was tired, but I wasn't asleep yet. I had just laid down. And I know I wasn't imagining it. I honestly thought I'd open my eyes and find a cat with me. So when it wasn't there, I had no idea what to think.
This morning I was up early again (but I fell asleep early too) And when Nat got up, I relayed this story to her. She found it interesting because after I'd gone to sleep last night, she heard a banging sound in the garage. It was really loud and it frightened her a little, but she went out there to check it out. All of the cats were sitting by the garage door staring at it. And she said it was shaking like someone was outside trying to open it.
She rushed to turn on the outside light by the garage, and she looked out the kitchen window, because you can see the driveway perfectly from there. No one was there. And the door was still shaking. She went outside to investigate further, and the shaking had stopped. But there was nothing out there. No animals, no people. The street was empty and quiet. And from the description of the shaking, another cat, even if it ran away real fast, couldn't have shaken a metal garage door like that!
So yeah...our house appears to still be haunted. Nothing has really happened in quite some time. But last night was a busy night! We both had separate experiences at different times. And I can't explain either of them! Even if I was tiredly imagining everything that happened in the bedroom, how could Nat imagine that? She was wide awake. And the cats all heard and saw it too.
Freaky!!
