Last night I wasn't feeling very good. I have really bad allergies that act up during this time of year. I usually feel like crap for awhile before I either get used to the pollens or they go away. But anyhow, I felt horrible so I made it an early night. I went to bed around 8:30pm, but Nat wasn't tired yet, so she stayed up.

I made sure that the bedroom had no cats inside it to bother me. I just wanted to crash out and get some rest. Especially since I'm still waking up hella early every morning. I was exhausted. So I'm laying there in the bed, attempting to fall asleep. And I heard some rustling by the closet. Nat left some shopping bags there from our trip to Mervyn's and Old Navy last weekend. I thought that one of the cats had been sneaky and managed to slip past me, even though I checked before I closed the door.

I was a little annoyed, but I was too tired to get up and shoo them out. I figured they'd get bored of playing in the bag and just come up on the bed and sleep with me. And the rustling stopped fairly quickly, so I didn't think that much of it. Then I heard what sounded like footsteps in the room. They sounded like person steps though, and not a cat. So I sat up and looked around, and I didn't see anyone. The door was still closed and Nat wasn't there. And I didn't see any cats either.

I thought it was strange, but I just laid back down again and assumed I was hearing things. Then I heard the steps again. And then I felt something jostle the bed, like a cat jumping onto it. And I could feel the mattress press down by my feet. I truly thought it was my cat. I knew I hadn't see her around when I looked, but cats hide. And the room was dark, so I figured I missed her. And I felt the bed moving and the sensation of something possibly walking on it. It started at my feet, and went up the length of the bed. Like something crawling on it.

Then I heard a weird breathing sound. Maybe a cat? So I opened my eyes and looked and there was nothing there. And I sat up and looked at the bed, and there was nothing there! No cat, no person. Nothing. But I FELT something staring at me when I laid back down again. You know how you can just tell when someone/something is looking at you? And I could still hear the sound of breathing, this time right by my face. And then the bed started vibrating. Not like an earthquake. It was much more subtle than that. It felt like one of those magic finger beds at a cheap motel.

And it did that for about 5 minutes, then it stopped. And suddenly everything was all quiet again. And I fell asleep. But seriously, WTF? What was that?? I have no explanation. I know I was tired, but I wasn't asleep yet. I had just laid down. And I know I wasn't imagining it. I honestly thought I'd open my eyes and find a cat with me. So when it wasn't there, I had no idea what to think.

This morning I was up early again (but I fell asleep early too) And when Nat got up, I relayed this story to her. She found it interesting because after I'd gone to sleep last night, she heard a banging sound in the garage. It was really loud and it frightened her a little, but she went out there to check it out. All of the cats were sitting by the garage door staring at it. And she said it was shaking like someone was outside trying to open it.

She rushed to turn on the outside light by the garage, and she looked out the kitchen window, because you can see the driveway perfectly from there. No one was there. And the door was still shaking. She went outside to investigate further, and the shaking had stopped. But there was nothing out there. No animals, no people. The street was empty and quiet. And from the description of the shaking, another cat, even if it ran away real fast, couldn't have shaken a metal garage door like that!

So yeah...our house appears to still be haunted. Nothing has really happened in quite some time. But last night was a busy night! We both had separate experiences at different times. And I can't explain either of them! Even if I was tiredly imagining everything that happened in the bedroom, how could Nat imagine that? She was wide awake. And the cats all heard and saw it too.

Freaky!!

Maybe your inside friendly ghost was trying to make you feel better sensing you had not been feeling well.  It was a way to "rock you to sleep" the best way it could. I must admit, I think by now, I would be outta there!  LOL  I have to give Nat credit too.. cause I sure would not have had the nerve to go outside or even to the garage to see what the noise was.  (maybe the ghosts just got back from vacation)

Nothing so far has been malicious.  It's more like curious and in some cases could be construed as sympathetic.  If it really bothers you you might consider hiring someone to come in and "cleanse" the place of spirits.  I'm not exactly sure who that would be, but know there are ways to do it.

I watch way too much of that Discovery show, "A Haunting," not to be creeped out right now.  But I know it's biased; they only show worst-case scenarios on that show and they make it as dramatic as possible.

That is pretty creepy but like Uni says not malicious.  Thanks for sharing!  These are always cool stories.

One thing I thought of, if you have allergies right now and trouble breathing...maybe the ghost is trying to "show" you how to breathe?  Like when little babies sleep with their parents, just the sound of their parents' breath and heartbeat helps the baby's body regulate itself.

Back when I had a lot of stomach and digestion problems, my cat would lay on my lap and then sort of hold my hand to her stomach with her paws.  Someone told me that she knew I wasn't feeling well and was trying to "teach" my body what healthy stomach energy feels like.  It's a bit "woo woo" and I'm not saying I believe that 100% but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if one day somebody proves it to be true, know what I mean?

quietone--I have no idea if the ghosts were on vacation or what. It's been really quiet for the last few months. And then apparently last night was just a busy night! I thought it was really brave of Nat to check out all that stuff and not even come get me out of bed. I kind of wished she would have though, because if someone was really breaking in, I don't like the thought of her going outside alone!

uniquely--Yeah, it's definitely not malicious, whatever it is. I think it just wants to be noticed sometimes. It honestly doesn't bother me though because I think it's kind of cool! If it ever did anything scary or mean, then I'd do something about it. We have burned sage, which is supposed to 'cleanse' the place. And maybe that works, because it's been awhile since anything happened. But it might have worn off!

nyt--I've watched that show! They do make it all very creepy and scary with their re-enactments. But so far, our ghost doesn't seem to be harmful. It's interesting that both you and quietone both suggested the ghost was trying to help me or make me feel better. You never know! It didn't scare me, but it was sort of strange. Especially the breathing part! And I actually do believe that cats can tell when a person is sick, because mine tend to pile on top of me and protect me if they sense I'm not well. Whereas, they usually don't bother to sleep with me at all if I'm feeling good.

You might also try throwing sea salt in the four corners.  It's a ritual cleansing we used in our dojo all the time.  That and the sage.
  • diabolicdame said on May 02, 2008....
Thats fucking scary dude! YIKES! I have to sleep alone in my bed tonight as always and I should not have read this right now.. I'm scared! There was a ghost in bed with you! How did you even manage fall asleep after that? Oh my god! Its amazing that you're cool with this.. I would have moved!
  • evil_twin said on May 02, 2008....
uniquely--Yeah, that is a good idea. But I always wondered that if salt keeps spirits from crossing the threshhold, what happens if they're already inside the house? Does it keep them inside? Or am I not quite understanding what it does?

diabolic--I didn't mean to freak you out! I'm kind of used to the weird stuff happening because it happens a lot around here. I might be weird, but I just think it's cool!
  • diabolicdame said on May 02, 2008....
No you're not weird.. I just get spooked easy.. it is kinda cool if you think about it.. unless you're like me.. in which case you'd die of a heart attack if there was a ghost in your bed!!  :-D

I think I would give some consideration to moving.  I am not an expert, but I have an interest in this sort of thing.  These situations can affect you emotionally and physically even if they aren't malicious.  You seem pretty intuitive and it may explain some of your unsettledness lately.

Something on the bed with me and the garage door rattling on its own would have had me at the Super 8.  :-)

That is really strange. Damn. Your house is crazy. I think I would have been curious who was on the bed with me though. You should have asked it what it wanted. Not that it would answer you, but you never know.

Nat needs to wake you up the next time something beats on the garage door though. If something was out there, what would she do? Does she think she's Buffy? ;-)

I hope you're feeling better too, with the allergies.
  • the_infernal_optimist said on May 02, 2008....
That is definitely weird and a half! I have no idea what to make of it, but I agree with others that it doesn't seem malicious. That's got to be a relief, right? Whatever it is doing it doesn't seem to want to hurt you at all.

diabolic--You know, whenever I think about what happened later, it seems scarier. But while it's happening, I never feel like I'm in danger or anything. So I guess that's why it doesn't bother me that much!

CW--I would hate to have to move. I really like our house! But you are right that certain things like that can affect the way a person feels. But unfortunately I think my problems are something else. And sometimes the only place I feel happy is inside my house!

Mr. Box--I do think Nat was all Buffy like last night. She thought she could kick a little ghost ass or something. But I told her to wake me up next time too! My allergies are better today. I don't feel like death anymore!

Infernal--I definitely don't feel like it wants to hurt us. I think it's just curious about us. And sometimes I think it wants to freak the cats out, like with the garage door!

oh my god!!! dude that would scare the living shit out of me!!! i would call the ghost busters or something...lol... but honestly maybe the ghost have some unfinish business or something. and they were trying to get your attention...
  • iamshay said on May 03, 2008....
I had a lot of experiences with the ghost since I was a kid.
It was pretty cool knowing someone's watchin' you, i mean I know it's freaky but hey it's above normal. I kinda like it especially when I'm walkin' in the street and seeing someone whom I know is a ghost.

queen's right, sometimes they're trying to get your attention...

  • silverwhisper said on May 03, 2008....
dude, that's really, really bizarre! i don't have any suggestions, but both u-i and nyt had some helpful suggestions.

do you know anybody who's into supernatural stuff? if so, perhaps having 'em come over at some point wouldn't be a bad idea?

queen--It is a little freaky, but it really doesn't bother me that much. So far, anyway!

shay--You've seen a lot of ghosts? That's really interesting. I haven't seen a whole lot, but I've definitely had a lot of strange experiences like I've described here. They probably do want my attention, but I'm not sure what they want!

    skald--It is a little creepy....

silver--I do know some people who might be able to come in and see if they can find anything. But I guess we're just sort of used to it and it doesn't bother us that much. Maybe we're just weird??
  • silverwhisper said on May 04, 2008....
o, you two most definitely are weird--which is what we like about you guys. :>

if you did have 'em come by, it might give you guys a little more information, and to quote dawn, what could be bad about that? :>

Yesterday, while he was home, my husband called his mother and spoke to her for a while. I could tell by his voice that something was upsetting him but because the conversation was in Chinese I couldn't tell what he was saying. When he got o...
